65? :P

different filters are for differnt things.

Red and orange are good for rabbits and foxes, orange gives a better range than red.

Red doesn't hinder human night vision (why it is used on boats at night) and so still allows you to see in your periphery when you shoot.

Blue is best for frost and light fog and I have heard is recommended for rat shooting.

green has a similar wavelength to red but since most plants reflect green they will illuminate more than red which will be absorbed by green things. green might be a bit overwhelming though.

Basically use whatever you like! :good:

You would be best to try one different filter every night until you find whats best for you.

I use red for rabbits as I usually shoot short range.

Orange is probably the best compromise for range and illumination.

I have to agree with both Steve_B_Wales and with Landrover on this one. I generally use an amber for foxes with my .243 and a red for lamping rabbits with my 17HMR. I find that the red does seem to absorb more light than the amber but is better for rabbits at shorter ranges but not so good for foxes at long range (100 yards plus)!

I haven't tried a blue or green filter so I can't comment on them!

As has been said, try each one and see what you get on best with mate!

It seems from the replies that AMBER is most likely the best to use,i'm hopefully out tonight after rabbits (that's if the weather holds fine),and I shall take both red and amber and try them out.The field that I shall be shooting has no lighting around it at all,and is very dark.

thanks,

Alan :)
