Hi all,

For the past 4 or 5 weeks now I've been having trouble with mr fox helping himself to my chickens, 2 or 3 went missing over a week or so, then one evening went out at 7.30pm ish and there was 2 foxes, chickens in mouths right by the chicken house!! they dropped the chickens and run off, also found another dead one near by.

The following evening my mate came round with his .223, put a dead chicken out and waited from about 7pm til 1am nothing, the following few nights I went out with the lamp and the 12 bore, seen one on one night but not close enough to take a shot. That was it, a couple of nights I put a dead rabbit out and waited with the 12, till about 1am and still no sign. The rabbits where always gone tho first thing in the morning.

In the mean time I fenced the chickens in with electric fencing, I also bought a few snares and put them down where the foxes where clearly moving about, 2wks pass and nothing.

I go on holiday for a week so remove the snares, come back all is well, the following day check the chickens and one of my pens has been cleared of all its chickens (6 of)!!

The following few nights wait out again with the 12 til dark, then go out with the lamp, nothing. Lay the snares down again.

Went with the lamp almost every night all weekend, every hour or so I'd go for a mooch til bed at 1am ish, seen nothing.

Finally on tuesday evening when I got home from work was going for the usual walk round with the 12 and to check snares and there was one in there!! woohoo at last!! a young dog

Then to top that I when to check the snares this morning and woohoo another one!!! a vixen this time

After nothing for so long 2 in 2 days

here they are, dog at the top, vixen bottom

Nice one. It sounds like you had a frustrating time trying to get them. On our commercial shoot in North Wales we have out 80-90 snares at a time. They are dead handy because they are 'working' 24 hours a day. The only problem with them is it can take a while for your scent to wear off them. Anyway keep up the good work and if you need a hand laping etc let me know. ATB :good::good:

Best making you're own if you can get a few metres of rappa wire and a few crimps.
