Hi,can anybody recomend a good torch for spotting foxes and rabbits at a good range?

I am after something like this as i mainly lamp alone with a scope mounted lamp, this can be hard work moving the gun around to lamp with, also reduces the battery time on me lamp,as i found out tonight after i spotted a fox, being a lithium ion one minute it was glowing great next thing i was in pitch black, dont want to spend heaps of money, also must be able to fit in a pocket, any suggestions greatly appreciated, dont really want a bigger battery either before somebody suggests it as i think i have the balance just right with weight and length of battery power if i can keep the use down a bit with a torch,

Thanks for looking,

Chris

When you say "at a good range" what sort of range were you thinking about mate?

I use a Lightforce 140 with a 7AH battery and it gives me more than enough power to last for a long nights lamping, maybe your battery is getting a little tired and needs replacing!

Lightforce 170, 2 month old 8ah lithium ion battery, nothing wrong with the kit,i just want to use a torch instead of using the gun and lamp to spot,as i said i mainly go alone and mostly on foot, thanks for trying to help though,

I can tell you DON'T go for a Maglite. I bought one for picking up and its ****. Too wide a beam, fiddly and easy to lose and not bright enough. Fenix torches are very good. If you're buying a spotting torch it might be a good idea to get one that can be quickly transfered to the scope if you find yorself in the lurch.

That's the trouble with lithium batteries, when they're spent they just go out. Deben packs have warning lights that show power remaining. But a torch that can be used as a back up scope lamp might be useful. The Fenix ones have a very simple and effective mounting system.

OK Mate, I understand what you are saying now! I thought originally that you were saying that your battery wasn't lasting long enough! Maybe I misunderstood - No problem I hope.

I will be interested in watching this thread as I use my lamp scope mounted and it can be a bit of a do swinging the .243 around trying to spot foxes so using a fairly high powered hand held torch or small lamp might be better for me too!

Spot on,were on the same wave length here,i noticed it last night with the .222 with predator mod on,also having had 4 wrist ops and one elbow op,makes things ache at the end of a night, thats were the torch would be good,

Thanks Chris

Sniper system torch came today, first impression looks quite good,no seal around the bezel were you change the lens for coulered ones so obviously not waterproof, not impressed with the swith its quite a loud click, and evry time you press it it changes mode from dim to bright then flash and back, this is annoying and a lot of clicking, the lense looks like plastic so i dont think it will be scratch resistant like others, also didn't think the beam was that good compared to a cheap one my cousin bought on ebay for under £7.

A breif summary,i wish i had bought the BC40,i know it was twice the price, but it also sounds like twice the light.

How do i stand on getting a refund? does anybody know,if i can i will order the BC40,

Thanks Chris.
