Importing Shotguns to the UK

Evening Gents

I recently have taken up shooting again after a 10 year break. I was going to buy a Browning but after consulting my grandfather before purchase, he kindly gave me his pair of H&H. The problem is they are in the South Africa. I spoke to the police firearms unit and was informed I could have the guns put onto my licence once I brought them into the UK. I asked if I could have this in writing as the Police in South Africa claim that to export the gun they need it in writing, but the person from the firearms unit said that they can't give it to me in writing.

Has anyone had this problem and found away around it I apologise for the very technical question first up.

Wow how wonderful there are some RFD's who specialise in import and export I would get some quotes from a few and probably not mention the H&H name until after you have had the quotes!

Knowing where you are might help! There is a list of importers here: http://www.ukgundealer.com/import.htm

BTW welcome to the watch

Hi,

I brought in a Beretta from Durban useing Holts auctioneers, and it took two years! They imported a lot of weapons that were headed for destruction, so had to wait for a full consignment before shiping.

I also left behind a heap of other firearms for destruction, as the paperwork was killer. I think about a 20 page document for each one.(Still have a copy about some where)

A pair of H&H shotguns well worth the effort.

Gun went from Kings in Durban to Suburban guns in Cape town, then to norfolk and then RFD to me.

PM me if you need any more info.

But be quick, I'm away shortly for a month long Safari/holiday :yahoo::yahoo:

Talk to BASC.

:no::no:

As good as BASC is, I don't think they will be able to help. Getting the guns into the UK is the easy bit.

The hardest part is the paperwork in SA. As all firearms have individual licenses, you will be dealing with two sets of paperwork for a pair. The export permit system in SA is a nightmare and can take months(unless you go personally to Pretoria with the paperwork and "something nice for the lady"). After that the original license must be cancelled.(months again)

Easiest is to sign them over to a RFD. (Kings and Suburban Guns are/were agents for Holts)

Then cancel the licenses at a local police station.

Wait a long time till they arrive in the UK. Pay the money and put them on your SGC :good:

I would consider bringing the wood, cases, oil bottles etc over separately, as luggage on a trip out.

Thanks for the Help Guys

GSM thanks for reminding me of Alan I had completely forgotten about him. I should be fine from here I think as the Kings are family friends. Fortunately I'm off to CPT on Sunday for business, I'll pop in and see him as I've got some duck hunting planned for next weekend in Nottingham Road so I'll be in the area.

Enjoy the Safari I'm jealous.
