hambone
A few opinions before i decide what to get would be welcome so all feel free to give yours. I need a moderator for my 22/250, should i buy one designated for this calibre or get one which could also be used on a .243 and then may be put onto my .243 if required. Is the noise reduction significantly different between the two sizes. Thanks.
Dunkield
I had a mod that fitted my 6.5 and also my .223. It was a PES T12, damn good mod just a bit big and heavy for my liking, it was fine on the 6.5 but didn't quieten down the .223 very well at all. So my short answer to your question would be get a mod designed for the calibre, especially as the 22-250 is going to need a good bit calming down. eccles
Hi Dunkield correct. got t8 on my 223 very good.An other thing to think about not all rifles have same thread.Alway when you put in for vareation on cert put moderator as well.at least it on cert Its the db that you look for when you choose mod
Colster
Depends on your reason for wanting a mod as sound reduction on a cf is always a bit limited anyway. If you're looking at reducing muzzle flip then ideally you want something with a bit of weight (although £200 seems a lot to spend just to hang a weight on the end of the barrel). If it's a reflex mod though, you'd need to be sure that not only was the screwcut on each rifle the same thread but also that the rear bush fitted both barrels as well. Having said that you can buy the rear tubes (and bush) for a Predator separately so you could interchange as long as the thread was the same. So my short answer to your question would be get a mod designed for the calibre, especially as the 22-250 is going to need a good bit calming down. if you got the moddy for a .243 it would have a 6mm baffle clearance the 6.5 has a 30 cal baffle, on the other hand if you bought a MAE (formerly PES) for a 22-250 it would have a 6mm hole also as there are only 6mm and 30 cal moddies in these baffles. I had a mega chat with Julian recently, he knows his onions i can tell you bought the T12 scout it is 100 grms lighter than the std T12 it quietens down the hornet just as good as my T8 "can, can" smaller chamber but 4 extra baffles over the relex T8. Got another rear bush so it might go on the .243" also. The extra expantion/cooling chamber size makes for extra sound reduction but at the penality of weight The problems with tight to calibre baffles is alignment, moddy comes slightly loose and you risk striking them it also makes it even more critical that the threading is done perfectly and in line with the bore NOT the barrel OD. As regards reduction of noie i belive it makes minimul difference if the overage isn't too great putting a .22 bullet through a 30 cal stack is not the best idea yet .22 through a 6mm is fine IMO
