fenboy
Had a day today with a mate on one of his permissions. Got started about 2pm on some rape stubble ,he had first choice of spots and went up the far end of the field where there was plenty of bushes for cover . I made do with setting up about half way down the field in a shallow dyke filled with nettles :o Several birds about but did not decoy that brilliant. To cut a long story short I ended up with 56 for 71 shots and my mate had 4 for 28 shots I hope I get invited again

fenboy
Well done mate, Good shooting , but not sure about your mate's shooting though  He does not go much and is a poor shot by his own admission but he enjoys it which is the main thing, but i have been telling him for years that his gun does not fit anything like ! Cranfield
56 birds is a nice result and I can sympathise with you sitting in shallow dykes with nettles. I shot 39 in a high wind this afternoon on rape stubble and got soaked through twice. Fooled by the sunny morning, I only had a mesh camo jacket over a shirt, so I was really wet. The birds were jinking all over the place in the wind and although they were committing to the decoys, it was difficult to follow their line. Quite a few times I swung through the bird, pulled the trigger and it was nowhere in sight, very frustrating.

Though i had a good day on sunday and shot well at times, the strong wind really hampered the shooting. If it was 10mph slower, i reckon alot of triples would have been taken. I had a few nice left and rights but after the first shot they turned on the wind and were off.
