Herts get the first Rural Special

Recommended Posts

Richard Downs becomes the first rural special in the Watling Ward...

Untitled-1.jpg

After leaving The Royal Green Jackets with nearly ten great years behind him, he became the gamekeeper at The Luton Hoo Estate for nine seasons.

He now look after a private family estate with a pheasant shoot.

Gamekeeper and Special Constable - great combo.

I have 16 hours a month to spare and I have applied.

Might as well try and get some extra skills under my belt whilst I'm still reasonably young :good:

If they spot 10 errors, they don't even move onto the actualy competency based questions! You then cannot reapply for that post from 6 months of application.

I can reapply...in October I think!

Full uniform, full training...full powers or arrest ;)

How strict are the errors? Give us a run down of your mistakes.

I ended a sentence with a 'with'. You're not supposed to end a sentence with a prepositon, so I'd be keen to see if they picked that one up.

Are you applying for the Rural Special job or a place on Countdown?

I don't mean to sound arrogant, but even if mine or huffhuff's grammar is/was not perfectly up to standards, I bet it's a one hell of a lot better than the sort of applicants they will usually get.

I had a couple of schoolboy errors, plus a typo and for some reason I used a - and they didn't like that. Don't have email on phone (I contested) so will try and email it when I get in later today.

For some odd reason I put where instead of were! I obviously went very red at that one!

I proof read all official documents that leave work!

I can understand them ruling people out for being illiterate, I guess there will be paperwork and reports to be filled out etc.

But if they are that fussy I can only assume they were inundated with applicants - which wouldn't surprise me when you see how many applicants you get for a keepers job for example.

You'll be pleased to hear I didn't get the job

"I regret to inform you that you that you were not shortlisted on this occasion as you have not successfully evidenced the competencies required for the role."

I'd usually not care, but seeing as I took the time to properly answer each question I was asked. (And double checking I had) It annoys me that they had the audacity to say I'd not evidenced my competencies.

After reviewing the application process, you do notice that a large chunk of it is about your ethnic background. 'Positive Discrimination' will more than likely be a phrase used in their office and I may have progressed a little further if my name was Jamal.

I did also turn down the opportunity to class myself as 'White - English' and opted for a more police-friendly 'White - British'

I submitted mine at work in a rush, so hopefully my rushed grammar is acceptable. :/

(Edit to add a full stop)

Maybe not that much time, eh? ;)
