fiiish1987
Is it legal to take an air rifle on public transport? (obviously in a secure case) I've seen many versions of airgun laws and none mention public transport, only that when airguns are in transit they must be in a secure case, unloaded and you must have a valid reason for transporting them. Any help would be apreciated.
Lord Geordie
I used to work for a big bus company here in the NE and we wouldn't allow people on the Bus with rifle cases etc. I am not sure about bringing them ON public transport but as far as i was taught NO Of course i am no great authority on that so take that as you please Pinch of salt provided if you need LG
fiiish1987
of course i could be cheeky and use my guitar case!
roblade
i think it depends on a few points: 1 the bus could be deemed to be private property (its owned by the bus company) so unable to have a rifle with you without permision. 2. depends on how obviouse the rifle is. 3. what clothing do you wear? 4. do you look like a nutter??LOL 1. you could always try to speak to the bus company and explain the situation that your on a local sports team and the only way you can get to practise for the reigonal finals to enable to you to enter the national competitions is to travel via thier bus services. hey you never know they might buy it LOL (just make sure you dont have you camo covers on). 2. this is where the TDR (take down rifles) come in very usefull LOL, or like you said use your guitar case, as long as it fits you even have enough room in there to store you camo I have used busses in this area, but always with a hard case, anyone asks its an elecric keyboard, and i just hope they dont look too closely at the hunting scene on the case LOL 3. regardless of where your going or what your doing if you have your rifle with you and you need to go from a-b via public transport always advisable to dress smart, the way you look is how people see our sport. me i leave the house in full camo every sunday and thursday, at first had funny looks when getting my cigs and petrol from tescos at 7am but now they ask how everythings going first impressions are important when you dont get a chance to give a second. 4. see 3. LOL But of the above i would recomend you paying close attention to point 3, even if you need to use camo on your shoot there is nothing wrong with either the mesh suits, which you can get for about 30 quid, they fold up so small you can almost carry them in your pocket. Or just changing your clothes when you get there (unless its a rat infested barn ) the onyl thing you cant do much about is foot wear LOL If your using army surplus boots at a glance you can get away with them looking like shoes if kept in nice condition LOL hope this helps you out a little ROB
Axe
One of the biggest problems that many seem to forget is insurance. The transport operator that you wish to use may not be insured to carry rifles. You must first contact the transport operator to explain the situation, your route, the times etc. and also explain that the case is locked and as discrete as possible. It just may be a simple yes you can or you may have to meet with them or just maybe they will say no.
fiiish1987
Bit of a grey area then! No actual law sayin no but you could say its private property so its armed tresspass! Yet if the drivers not paying to much attention and you buy a ticket you have printed permission to be on the bus!
