Yes. A common characteristic of mature fallow bucks is the prominent adam's apple.

Frenchieboy
In answer to philmypower's question at one time I was withion about 20 yards. In answer to yankeedoodlepigeon's question "Are they are headed for the dinner plate" - All I can say is "I wish", at that range even I might be able to get a clean kill! And "YES" I agree that it is nice to see live ones now and then! - Even nicer when you see them square in the crosshairs of your scope! Mind you I would rather see this one in the crosshairs of my scope - He doesn't look too happy about me taking his photo! yankeedoodlepigeon
Oh well. I don't think you would get that close with your.243 in hand though haha. I'm sure you would get it way beyond that.

Frenchieboy
Well unless Elk are now roaming the Lancashire fells they are in a park. Nice pictures all the same. I know where you are coming from but I can say quite honestly that these photos were not taken in a park! The chap that owns them does breed deer but they are not in a park! They are in the same place as this one was tranquilised, he really was a big chap who had to be transported to bring new blood into another herd! Frenchieboy
good god pete thats some deer dont now how i would get that back to the car. you have took some cracking pics there i will hopefully be seeing some fallow soon That old boy was just a little pussy cat really Andy mate! Surely even you could have thrown him into the back of my little Frontera! (I think not) I try to take "interesting, action photos" and I was asked to do a sequence of shots on this beast to show the process of selecting, tranquilising, treating and transporting him. I really enjoyed this "assignment" but I have to admit that there was one time when this big old chap saw me moving quicker than a scolded whippet. We thought he was about to "go down" so I got out of the motor to take a few photos - He thought otherwise and decided that he didn't want his photo taken! I can tell you that when a beast that size is only 15 or 20 yards away from you and decides to lowers his head and looks like he is going to have a go it gets very close to clean underpants time and you get out of the way pretty quickly! How fast do you think you could move in this situation mate?
