Newbie on the Rape

Went back out on the disced rape yesterday that I shot my PB over last week. This time I had a mate with me who shoots a rifle but not shotgun, he has done a few clays in the past though.

Our first spot was on freshly cut barley - loads of spilt grain and with 6 birds down in 5 mins it was looking to be a good day. We had a pukka hide in a really comfy position out of the wind and drizzle as well.... but as soon as it started the birds dried up and reverted back to the flight line I was under last week. So I moved us.

Our hide was mow difficult, on a slope with no flat base to put the seats, and it was just plain awkward.... but the birds came in! Tom buoyed by his initial sucess (he dropped his first few birds) began to take on everything and soon realised how hard this game can be! In the end I called each bird and let him take the decoying birds and I took on the flightline.

Masses of shells (didnt count) but a very enjoyable day. I had 4 birds in particular that made the day for me - fast high birds overhead on the wind that I dropped dead in the air - made my day!!

Ended with 35 (about 8 in the woods behind that Meg in the photo later picked up) nice to repay the teaching that a few good mates did with me a few years ago. Pictures is my mate Tom and the gorgous Meg.
