wildfowler.250
Has anyone tried either fiocchi 3" magnums in 52gram lead BBs or 3's? The other ones I was looking at are the lyalvale Max game magnum 3" in lead as well,(I do like their super game 42g loads). Just curious if anyone on here has tried either of them? I have heard fiocchis are quite a quick shell but I've never tried them personally. Just to clarify, they are for Scotland and for use in fields. Simon123
I use both of these cart's mate as well as some RC 50's and Gamebore Mammoth Magnum's (all 50g+) , but not on geese but for foxes. Both are very hard hitting cartridges (for what i use them for), but the Fiocchi tends to have slightly more recoil, but i've had better results with the lyalvale max game. I've been told that with a BB shot, they will kill foxes out to 60 yards. I would suggest that you try some RC 50's, as these are even better in my views, and my local RDF one shot a fox at 70 yards with these cartridges giving a clean kill, which is un-believable ;) Edited August 21, 2011 by Simon123
wildfowler.250
Thanks Simon I'll go for the lyalvale and see if there are any RC's there as well for comparison.
silver pigeon 3
I use the Max game in 50g 1's for foxes and it drops them very well, should think they would do a good job on the geese too. In all honestly i wish i could use them down here for the geese, would be a lot cheaper than the tungsten
henry d
For decoyed geese you won`t need much more than 36/42gm of 3`s as they are greys and pinks, would prefer 1`s on canadas but they are few, but becoming more common, up here. If you are using a semi then a 50gm as a last shot works well, I like the express and Win XX mags for a last resort shot.
wildfowler.250
Cheers guys Henry these are generally passing over the fields. I have to agree with the 42g 3's for decoying I have mixed thoughts on the last shot thing. I have tried a heavy shell last like you have suggested. But if the geese come towards you, your last shot could be your closest? The lyalvales seem to be a popular choice though Not too long to wait now! henry d
If you have fired 2 shots at incoming geese, the third will be at either a deaf and blind incomer or a fast departing healthy one For pass shooting I would go for Winchester XX`s in US 4`s (our 3`s). fenboy
I use the lyvale max game in 3s for foxes and the few I have shot have been very dead ! up to around 35 yards so I would think they will do the job on geese just fine ! wildfowler.250
Well another vote for lyalvale I'll definitely stock up! Tam, is that quite a nippy cartridge? Just curious as the super game shells squeeze a 42gram load into a 2 3/4 shell. Is the 2 grams a big difference or is the longer case for extra 'punch'? Cheers guys! Not sure of the velocity mate - I shoot through 1/4 choke & the geese don't like them

wildfowler.250
Cheers Tam Tigger, is "mammoth" a make of cartridge? I've pinched a few of the old man's shells that have had mammoth written on them,(just assumed they were a heavy load). What do you guys prefer? BB's, 1's or 3's? I tend to go for 3s for 'pattern'. The 1's didn't produce much difference are the BB's better than no. 3?? ATB!

wildfowler.250
I tried 66g 2's. Just too much oomph,(especially if you fired 3 in a row ). I'm thinking the 50s are a good intermediate
