Ghostrider1979
Hi guys, Well this is my post about my first hunt and what the outcome was, last night I went out and seen about 14 rabbits and **** loads of feral pigeons. First thing I did was recon the area I was in which was fine then it was time to take aim at my first pigeon in a barn around 15ft away in the ceiling beams. I was using jsw superdomes because that's all I had on me. Aiming just in the centre of the ferals neck I held my finger on the second stage of the trigger, with my breath easing out I took my shot. Thump it hit the pigeon but he didn't drop like I expected and had seen on various utube clips instead it fluttered to the ground and started flapping around. I took another shot and then it was finally at peace. Every pigeon I shot there after did the same thing. I then settled in position near a rabbit run after about an hour. Twenty minutes down the line I saw a little head pop out from the bushes. So same thing again i took aim pointing my cross airs right between bunnys eyes. I took my shot, the rabbit back flipped but then as I was walking over it got up and ran off into the run which I could not follow. This shot was at about 30 feet away using shooting sticks. Poor bunny must of been in pain and my frustrations and anger got the best of me so I packed up and went home. This morning at 5am I went back and as I walked up to the barn I saw five rabbits around 30ft away. I got down low and thought today is the day. I crept closer and closer four rabbits made a run for it but one didn't notice me coming. At around 20ft I got down on one knee took my rifle and took aim. I shot the rabbit right in the head but instead of dropping down it stumbled towards me and kept coming lol I quickly reloaded my rifle and took another shot but he still didnt go down. One last quick reload and I fired he went down this time. Now experiencing all this I must admit I have a mixture of feelings some happy and some ashamed. I don't want the animals to suffer that I shoot I want quick clean kills. So am I doing anything wrong and any tips to help me improve? .philmypower.
You need to get a chronograph on your gun and see what it's firing at if it's not dropping a headshot rabbit at 20 yards something's not right you should be dropping them dead at 40 yards. I would strongly advise getting this sorted before continuing as you said you don't Want your quarry to suffer. If that fails phraps try diff pellets, there are plenty of guys on this forum who shoot air rifle who will be able to point you in the right direction

I have been told its shooting at 11.5fps. Maybe it was aload of bull from the gun shop.
.philmypower.
I'd get that re checked by some one else buddy,or get him to test it in front of you. May be ask if there is someone on this forum in your area with acrono who could help you. Might cost you a beer but well worth it. What is your area? hope you get it sorted buddy, must be very frustrating for you
eccles
As the other lads say get it checked. If its 11.5lb it should kill them clean out to 40yards rabbits that is.My logun pro 177 on a dead still day stops them up to 60 yards and thats 11.8 using accupell pellets. As to the pigeons if you head shoot them they nearly always flap about but their dead mate

david bram
Hi mate are you certain your hitting the quarry were you say you are aiming you havnt mentioned if the damage is clearly visable, not sure if youve got a scope or not but either way set up a paper target at a similar distance and put a few shots in it. You may be shooting low and still hitting the target but in the crop/body.

Ghostrider1979
Did you get your problem sorted mate, what was the outcome? Phil Sending my rifle to be chronoed tomorrow and going out for a good few hours Saturday spending a good few hours practicing and zeroing in. Also someone asked me how much practice I had with my rifle and when I said half an hour and he laughed. Obviously he was correct though in saying I need more practice.
