Teal
IMO that type of pigeon shooting is sick and disgusting. Basically its like clay pigeon shooting but with real pigeons. They do it in Texas I believe, I would never condone such activity I think its disgusting, the birds shot are not even eaten.
red_stag88
 What they actually put them in the trap, thats harsh. I thought it was a metaphorical pigeon Sorry if anyone got a bad impression of me. I dont shoot unless i have a clean kill, and i usually miss them anyway. new to the flock
The type of shooting that is being talk of in the poem is no longer allowed in Canada, I do believe that pigeon shoots of this type are still allowed in some states. The birds are flown from a trap and the shooters are scored to there shooting ability. The bird must fall inside a set area. I must admit that I have used pigeons in bird launchers for the training of both pointers and flushers. As of this past September it is also illegal, you are not allowed to launch or throw a bird for the soal purpose of shooting it. This is a very effective way of training pointers to be steady to point, wing, shot, and fall . As well it is a great way to train flushing dogs for range, sit to flush, and steady to fall. I would also like to say not all birds that go through the launchers are shot, or even shot at, and any that were shot were always turned into table fair, or reused as training birds. Although I personally do not agree with the type of pigeon competitions that are being talked about in the poem, as a hunter I do not condon it. If we start to pick apart are sport just because one fraction is not what we are interested in or classed as fair chase in ones own eyes, then the anties will gain in leaps and bounds by dividing us in to even smaller fractions fighting amongst ourselves. Fox hunting to horse and hound, terriers, long dogs, upland bird hunting, stag hunting, and pigeon shooting are all tied together by a very fine thread which in this day and age should be woven into a strong rope if we are to survive.
