coneyhunter
Hello all, i am looking at possibly shooting some duck this season and am ware of the lead ban, i was wandering what people reccomend, i would like to point out that steel is out of the question as i have tried it was not very impressed, was thinking Tungsten , /eavi shot etc etc
TJ91
Itm, bismuth, hevi shot all does the job when you point the gun in the right direction
coneyhunter
true, very true, was after something that replicates lead well
Wildfowler12
Bismuth no.4s will do the job. I used to use Eley Alphamax, it's over £30 a box I've since got a steel proof gun and find HP steel does the job well Edited August 29, 2011 by Wildfowler69
kent
Most wildfowlers use steel, it works fine if you shoot the fastest stuff you can get go up a couple of sizes and don't take high shots.
Alycidon
Bismuth 4s and 5s work well on duck and shorter range inland flighted geese. Geese over about 30 yards want a bit more lead, 36gr of Remington Hevishot works OK to about 40 yards. Over that get a bigger gun to fire bigger payloads, Beretta semi is a good tool for the job. I usually load Bismuth for the early part of the flight switching to hevishot if geese are heard. Once the first lot of geese have been in then I switch to 36s, bit thumpy is a lightweight 687 game gun though !!. On a duck drive a couple of years ago a party of duck came over me so high I put my gun down, bloke next to me folded one up clean as a whistle with steel 3s. Must have been at least 50 yards up. Remarkable. I have though seen a LOT of ducks hit and not killed with steel. A

Guest cookoff013
itm impact tungsten matrix, very soft and very comparable to lead. if it was cheaper, i`d load this.
