retromlc
is that because they usually need a lot of work? as they have 90's starting at £1500
keg
If it's ex military it will have a n/a diesel which is ok but very slow.... 87hp so bank on slotting in a 200tdi or 300tdi Ex army Chassis are normally good but places on all Landys to check are :- Rear Crossmember Front Outriggers Bulkhead, especially the corners under the windscreen. Other place to look at is Liveridge 4 x 4. got mine from there and not had a peep.
Redditch
Also most military Landy´s have none standard items like the alternators and electric systems (12volt/24volt dual power), higher rated amps, heavier servo´s on brakes etc, so if something needs replacing you generally have to go to a miltary breakers to get parts. That´s what it was like in the older ones, I expect the 90´s and 110´s will be the same as the 88´s and 109´s as far as that´s concerned. Try and get one with Infra Red headlamps too LOOOL, but not much chance of that
craftycarper
don't worry too much about the 24 volt thing, lots of places to get bits from...breakers,fleabay, craddocks etc and you can convert them. Insurance for mine was with footman and james, cheap as chips £130 fully comp, unlimited mileage. Getting back to the question about Witham, i would probably not bother with them personally and would shop around, theres also the transportation of the vehicle and civvy registration. WelshLamb
Ive got an ex mod 90 (1986). Paid a grand for it as standard straight out of the army. theres no 24 volt stuff on it, still got the 2.5na in it (cheap as chips to run, as long as youre not in a rush to gat anywhere) The whole thing is mint, not a spot of rust on the chassis anywhere, only a 50p size spot on the bulkhead
ozzy518
I ran an ex military Landy for a couple of years 1991 rag top...Reliable as hell. Always started and plodded along . 60 - 65 mph was best it could acheive on the flat. Go uphill and see the mph drop off. Comfortable they are not. No power steering, heaters just about work, If it rains, you WILL get wet. Doors are not always a good fit. Impossible to shoot out of the windows unless you whip out a 17mm spanner and unbolt the door tops. Being a rag top , anything left inside will get damp. Having said all that , they are fun to drive off road. I flogged mine whe chassis repairs got expensive.. I have now got a civillian Landy 200tdi.....much better on all fronts, and its still a Landy!!
retromlc
hi lads I ended up buying a '89 defender 90 turbo diesal, pre 200 tdi,it's stright and looks ok,very basic, underpowered and steering vague, but it's perfect for what I need/use it for, shooting walking dogs and trips to the dump.probably paid a bit too much for it,but not too much, but it's sound so I'm happy.differcult to know how much to pay, prices for 90s all over the place, still all sorted now
