Rizzini
Hia lads, just wanted to make a post just to get some info on the woodcock in the UK. When you do (It may be a bit early at this time of year) see a woodcock, post the sighting here and give details of when and where. I think the first woodcock was seen on the 11th of October last year here in West Wales are. What about you guy's ?

anser2
They are present all the year around in many woods as quite large numbers breed in the UK. Last one I saw three days ago. Seen about 50 during the summer in my local wood.
Boromir
Seen about 5 over the summer. Nearly killed one with the strimmer making runs in the pheasant pen, I didnt see it till it flew off its nest, luckily it hit the middle of the strimmer head and not the spinning wires. It had one egg in the nest covered it over and it was back when I went back the next day, if it survived the pheasant poults the week after I dont know! TJ91
all year round, just put 2 up walking the dog this morning, plenty about here usually get hundreds in a couple of the big boggy woods throughout winter, especialy during really hard weather, couple of small spring fed streams run each side of the woods keeping abit of soft ground all year round
JJsDad
Hi there. I shoot in North Kent & spend quite a few weekends during the summer working on our shoot or doing vermin control. Its unusual to see more than the odd one during a day in the summer months. We usually get an influx in mid to late October. On a good day once they have arrived and the leaf is off the tree`s, we shoot 12 to 15 & miss twice that number !
Kes
I rarely see them in the north west until the first full moon of October - they must be here but the numbers are low and only swelled by the first falls in October when we usually see 3-6 on a days shooting. Quite low numbers on our shoot but its not high land and the availability of marshy ground is limited. Fantastic bird and a joy to see as well as shoot now and then - very tasty.
