goldeneye243
I am tempted to get a new addition to my decoying gear and am considering either a turbo flapper or 4 off Denys Dippas. Given that the dippas would work out cheaper and I already have a magnet what is the general opinion on what would be likely to pull in more pigeons? Why not try for the best of both worlds and get one flapper and two of the Dippa´s ? You NEVER know what will pull pigeons on any given day, so it´s best to have a range of options. deny essex
I will probably go with dippas first - How many would you typically use? I have a preference for 3/4 in a 12 decoy pattern, although never tried as they were not finished for early winter rape possibly more , that is yet to be found out . sitsinhedges
I have both and would choose a turbo flapper first without hesitation
Cosd
On a serious note, I have both but I think it's an unfair comparison. The flapper will draw them in from further afield whereas the dippas are designed to give the birds confidence once they see the pattern so they commit. I love the flapper without doubt, but the dippas do make the pattern come alive. Remember one thing, no gizmo is guaranteed to work every time, on some days they will dive bomb painted cola bottles and on other days they won't even sniff at dead bird decoys; it's all about having the tools to try different ways for different days. richg
Saw the turbo flapper at Weston Park on AA Decoys stand, it was flapping like mad, looked dead impressive so i bought one. I have used it three times so far, First day 108, Second day 105, Third day 116, so i guess it works. Mine came with a timer, but it always seems to flap too long and at the wrong time so i got rid of the timer and have it on a cable with a button control so i can give a couple of flaps when a bird is passing at a distance and it seems to work. A friend of mine uses two, one each side of the pattern, when he see's a bird he gives a couple of flaps on one and then a couple on the other, he says it's Mustard. utectok
They look good although I have to say I try and simplify everything these days and good field craft half a dozen decoys and a couple of hypa flappers on steel poles will often do as well for me as a ton of gear it's quicker to set up and more fun experimenting and moving about the field but each to his own eh!
