stubby
decieded couple weeks back that I fancied tring a ruger 10/22 out, keeping my CZ as a day rifle, and setting the ruger up as a dedicated night rifle, hopefully at some point in future to be equipt with NV. checked out guntrader, then took a trip to eastern sporting today, got a terrific deal from jim on the price, and he kindly set it all up with my scope and bore sighted it, Im well happy with it, and cant wait to get out with it, although think Ill need to do a few mods to it, as the bolt release is a tricky ******, I'll get the dremmel out bought a selection of eleys, winchester, cci, rws and a couple of other brands, to see what it likes best,

I'm actually considering a semi .22lr at the moment, frankly I can't actually think of any sensible use for it over what I already have except the grin factor. Just the same that will probably be my justification (dedicated night use) to my region for an additional .22lr! Ha Ha ...... spraying a semi all round the countryside at night. Yeah that makes sense !!!!! :o
stubby
my first reason to thinking for night use, was most people were saying the were not as acurate as a bolt action, thus keeping (me) to only take the 60yd shots or under, which I saw as a good thing, as my permission has a few paths running across, and as crazy as it is, every now and then you'll get a nutter walking a dog, at silly o'clock (1am-dawn) although that Idea was blown out the water today on picking the rifle up from gun shop, got talking to another customer that had recently bought a ruger too, no custom work to it, yet was taking rabbits at 85yds, and one at 105yds, I love my CZ, but being bolt action, I cant load that next one quick enough, my personal best to date was 3 rabbits in a group, but we get groups of 6 plus, I want to get them all this could now be possible with an auto and yes, your right, the grin factor is there too, I can see me going through a lot more ammo, which maybe a good thing, as 6 months down the line, Ill put in for a storage ammo increase, I did ask this time but was refused as not being needed and lastly, the magazine, a 10 shot sits flush with the rifle, so lamping out the car window will be easier, than the CZ that has as you'll know, a more obtrusive magazine, Edited September 30, 2011 by stubby
welshwarrior
Stubby shoot it in 100 yards is doable if you can do your bit. You need to put a box or 2 through the Ruger to loosen her up, she will then handle different ammo. Mine loves winny subX and CCI subs and most Eley rounds. Go for the grin factor and shoot some cans to get into the gun.

welshwarrior
That's a nice stock it looks full length very different. Wouldn't work on my 12.5 barrel tho
stubby
yup its a full length stock, was told its "custom" but persume thats the name given by ruger, came with sling mounts, but needs the other bit added for me to use my bi-pod, heres another piccy yes pat, after trying it out today, I want a bigger mag I love it, fired 100 CCI's through it, not one single jam, although one jam in the 10 shot mag, reckon it needs a clean which I never did before hand, the gun shop sighted it up a 100yds, I re-set it to 60yds, and its also spot on at 25yds, still needs a few little tweaks, work on the trigger maybe?, a rear nylon buffer, and a bigger mag

stubby
big praise to u tube, after having the mag foul up on the ammo, viewed the above clip on cleaning the mag, taking note about how the inside of mag must be clean and DRY!! as mine came apart, you could see it was swimming in oil, grit and yes, a piece of wood gave it all a proper clean, re-wound the int spring and feels like a new item, ammo slides in and out with ease Edited October 1, 2011 by stubby
