Hi all

It's been a while since I have posted on here so thought I would get back and see what's going on. I also wanted to say that if anyone on here has any questions about any Zeiss scopes ,Binos or any other kit to drop me a line as I am now the Uk sales representative for Zeiss and yes thats the whole of the UK,so even if I don't have the answer for you I can get it for you.. Unfortunately this doesn't mean I can get any of you a cheap scope but I will do what I can to advise you if you need It.

Cheers Jon

Why are Swarovski scopes that much better? :yp:

Well you did say ask you anything....

Personally I wouldn't say they are.. That would be why a lot of people are buying duralyts instead of z4's... I did however as I'm sure you knew meant technical questions..lol

But thank you for the question..

I started with Zeiss in August and now have a victory sat on the 223 and a classic sat on the 6.5 and on a personally point rather than work head on can not fault either.

True but they aren,t any better.....:-)

I think you'll find the price is what makes them attractive, nothing to do with the quality.

The z4 doesn't have plastic turret caps, I know that much.

The price is defiantly a factor but even though the price is lower there hasn't been a compromise on the optical quality of them. the lences are made on the same machines that all our lenses are made and out of the same glass. You don't get the bells and whistles like metal turret caps but you do get a great optic for your money.

Anyway the reason I did put the first post up was more to do with any questions about Zeiss optics rather than the one you gave....

Jon, I think I might be buying Carl Zeiss Victory Varipoint 3-12x56 Illuminated reticle BUT with the BDC on it. I was told I can get it specially ordered from Germany and will get to the Zeiss UK for me for no extra cost. My question to you is, does the BDC help me with using my stalking rifle on occasional target shooting at distances of 600yds or longer? I will be zeroing at 100yds so I need something similar to the Swarovski's balistic turret and BDC is the closest Zeiss offers.

Hi Jon

I looked through a duralyt and a real zeiss alongside each other at the CLA gamefair because i had heard the duralyts were good, but to my eyes there was there was no comparison the real zeiss was much clearer so personally i would not have the duralyt even with your assurance they have the same glass

With the conquest scopes they have to go back to the US as the warranty for them is only valid over there.they are not a scope that is available in Europe which is why this is. Sorry I can't help more.

Hi there.

Yes is the answer to is. There is a programe you can download from the Zeiss website that will give you the details for the BDC. We have ASV which ties into the BDC where you add a strip to the turrent with slightly different numbers, these link to distances however these strips if you attaché them only go out to 400.

On the illuminated reticle that you want personally I think reticle 60 which is purely a single dot in the centre of the crosshairs is the best as it gives you a very quick aiming point. It's the one I'm using on my 223 and think it's great.

H Geordie.

The Victorys are better as they all have additional lense coatings which help improve the image. The FL versions include a floride lens which improves it further. There is a difference as the duralyts are made to fit the Market they are in, They don't have the bells and whistles the victory have but are defiantly a very good scope for the money.

Are the Zeiss lenses still made in Dresden using Schott manufactured glass or under licence in Japan.?

You can get plenty of Zeiss lensed bins cameras and scopes with the same optical quality using zeiss lenses manufactured under licence, and at a fraction of the cost, if you know where to look (excuse the pun).

What makes the Swars a bit special is the quality of the Glass, the Austrian brand just having the edge over the original Schott supplied lenses. But there aint much in it.

Hi, I have a quick question. I live in Germany and am sure I read last year in a magazine that Zeiss will cover all work on their scopes to the tune of E200 in the way of repair for free, no matter how old the scope is. I ask this as I have two Zeiss scopes in which the red dot now no longer functions.

Hi there

All the lenses in Zeiss scopes and bins in Europe are made in Wetzler in Germany. Did the factory tour two weeks ago very impressive to see how much work and time go into the products. aSwars,Leica and Zeiss all use Schott glass amongst others depending on the type of glass needed. Schott that started the company was part of the group of guys that started Zeiss in the 1900's.

Hi Traztaz.

Can you send me a mail to my work email address below about this and I will find out the answer for you. I can only comment on what we would do in the UK so will need to find out a point of contact for you in Germany.

I have seen through a "real Zeiss", and a Duralyt... I have a Duralyt mounted on my .308 700 LTR, and find that it handles recoil ect... Just fine. I shot a Muntjac last saturday at about 90yds at quite a low light dusk with no problems distinguishing the deer. I think there is no difference "really" with the Duralyt or other Zeiss models. I got the pleasure of looking through a target Leupold the other day and I think its about the same. Wont give you a drastic advantage IMHO...
