Game cartridges?

Recommended Posts

I've just picked up a gun on a local syndicate this season which is a first for me, can't wait!

Anyway I have been shooting Clear Pigeon 30g 6s for the past year or so for all my pigeon shooting, so my question is...

... Do you game shots just use pigeon shells or do you go for something a bit more fancy for game?

what game are you shooting? partridge? or phes?

both can be shot with a 6, partridge can be shot with a 7,

just use fibre loads, and a comfortable cartridge.

36g #5 isnt a bad shell. infact it is quite game getter.

I never use plastic, always fibre. Im happy with 30 g 6s as it's a pheasant shoot, my question is whether you game shots use a

'better' cart than a cheap pigeon shell?

Personally i always switch to Hull High Pheasant 30g 6's when shooting pheasants. To be fair though i do more game shooting than pigeon shooting, have used these for several seasons now and find them lightning fast. You will soon find out what works for you, everyone will have varying opinions on cartridge choice, it's very much a personal thing.

I hope this is of some help to you and hope you have great season.

I use cheap pigeon loads on 1 shoot I get days on (flat ground) but at another shoot (deep dales & steep hills) I use a bigger load usually around 34g 5s

Take the average height of the birds into consideration

Some good advice from TJ91. I should have mentioned the birds on my shoot are always strong challenging birds but they're not sky scraping birds (haven't got the ground for it). I would certainly listen to TJ91 when he says think about the height of the birds.
