P03
I have recently been having a play with some pellet lube......with unsatisfactory results . I found that when I lubed crosman accupels I lost accuracy. I was shooting indoors at 25 yds and could make no better group than 2 1/2" with 5 pellets (and that was the best group from 10 ). It took another 10 dry pellets or so before the barrel was clear of the lube and then the accuracy, or rather consistancy, returned and I was getting regular 1/2" groups. Has anyone else used pellet lube, and what were the results like? P03

roblade
did you wash and dry the crossman pellets first? and are we yalking about crossman accupells? as these pellets are already lubed, it could just be a case4 of the two oils not mixing. To try them out properly wash and dry the pellets first then use a couple of drops of pellet lube then try the accuracy test to see how they compare. personaly i dont think there is much point in using the stuff other than to make the companies a little bit more money out of our shooting. ROB ps could also be a confidence thing, if it works go wioth it
SNAKEBITE
I lube my AA field pellets using the Logun lube in the spray bottle. It seems to work however the main thing I use it for is to ensure the barrel is lubed. This I think helps prevent corrosion in the damp weather. dr_nick
Yes I use it, but, if you then put unlubed or plastic / logun pellets it "cleans the barrel" and your aim point is shot, (no pun). I usually reckon the lube puts the pellet up by 1" at least through my guns which means they are travelling faster?
Hunter
I neither wash nor lube pellets. Waste of time from my years of airgun shooting experiance. For starters I was given a batch of lube, brand name wont be givien on this forum, to test from the gun shop. The results were poor, leaving the barrel very dirty, and the pellets with no improved accuracy (4 brands tried, more then 60 shots each) And I found the only useful side to the lube is to wack a pellet through the barrel if I know the gun is being put away for a long time to prevent internal bore rust. I know use the lube for other gun parts, but it sure isnt going on my good pellets. Just like snap caps, its another trick to get money off new shooters. You dont need it, but they say you do. Or else such and such will happen, or you wont be able to shoot any rabbits without this product etc.. Find a good quality pellet that works well in your gun, and dont change it. With a 12ftlb air rifle, accuracy is a lot more important then that extra .7 of a pound exra power. Put the pellet in the right place, and it will do its job.. put it in the wrong place with more power, and you will only cause a worse wound. lurcherboy
Wash and dry them carefully and spray with a bit of furniture polish. It costs SFA and gives better results than the shop brought lube. Obviously it's not needed on pre-lubed pellets. If you notice the difference then you should be shooting for the olympic team LB

dazza
I have a bottle of pellet lube that I don't use since I sold my air rifle, if anybody wants it pm me your address and I ll send it. There might be an air rifle cleaning kit as well .
leeboy
I think pellet lube is a total con and the only thing it improves is the manufacturers profits. I have tried alsorts over the last 20 odd years and found that at best it makes your barrel and your fingers dirty. the last lube I tried was the napier stuff and the accuracy of my s410 went down. I was given the little bottle of oil 'free of charge' at gun shop 'to try'. I think that probably says it all. IMO the best way to achieve accuracy is find the brand of pellet that suits your gun and then shoot them clean, dry and shiny. However every single gun is different and there may be some that benefit. I also think that if the shooter firmly believes that he will shoot better if using it then he/she probably will. A very big part of shooting goes on in the brain, master that and your well on your way. regards Leeboy
killer rabbit (r1000)
i find wd40 works well as pellet lube, use for break-barrell rifles but don't use it on anything where the pellet comes into contact with any rubber seals (ie bolt action). as with all petroleum-based oils, wd40 will destroy rubber & you'll have a lovely job to do......
