ferguson_tom
Hi Everyone While watching tv stroking the dog (George) last night i saw a flea run across his belly so he went straight in the bath with flea shampoo. We then proceeded to hoover till very late last night everywhere George had been. I have pulled the big rug up and that has gone into the spare room with laminate flooring after hoovering, it will be going to get cleaned as well. I took his bedding and hoovered and hosed it down and left outside to dry. I use spot on regularly with him and he was not scrathing so I am hoping he might of just picked them up in the field that day. So think i have caught it before it spreads. However is there any thing else i can do to prevent any further spread apart from carry on hoovering. Also after looking just realised I have been rather stupid, i have used that bob martins spot on from pets at home and now found from reviews its useless. I will go buy frontline but this morning I put the spot on stuff on him, can I know put the frontline on as well or have to leave it a few days, weeks? Many thanks in advance. mpk
I have been using advocate since my dog was a pup and he has no problems. According to my vets the dog will itch when the flea treatment is working as advocate Attacks the central nervous system and makes them hop around it also treats for a lot of other things and IMO better than frontline. yankeedoodlepigeon
A quick call to your vets is in order here. As long as you keep up to date with treatments Fleas should not be a problem in the house.

Good luck Lee

stubby
although you probably already know, remember to empty hoovers into a sealable bag and dispose off straight away, after hoovering for flea's, as if you just stick the hoover back in cupboard, they can survive and climb out
apache
Some decent advice here. Frontline Combo has an extra ingredient that prevents the eggs developing in your house. Use the Frontline regularly to prevent an infection becoming established. Your vet can provide you with a household flea spray that will kill what is already in the environment. Follow the instructions. Do you have a dog or a cat? All animals need treating at the same time, cats and dogs share the same flea.
al4x
if you have a cat don't give it dog frontline though
ferguson_tom
Yer the hoover bag went straight in the bin, I only have one dog and no other pets. I have heard worrying things about people using dog stuff on cats, normally equals very sick or dead cat.
apache
The main problem is people using the pet shop 'Bob Martin' products that are dog only on cats. Dogs can tolerate permethrin, where as can't cant! Frontline's active is very safe but a huge overdose may give symptoms.
arwen3513
Hi I regularly use a household spray that prevents any new fleas from developing as it has a growth inhibitor in it, so should they pick up a stray flea from training / working etc, it shouldn't become an infestation, i use it at home and in the vehicles, i don't treat monthly for fleas and ticks, but treat when they are seen with a flea tablet. the spray last approx 4-5 mths, and with good hoovering your pets and home should be flea free jan
