fenboy
Bit of a long shot but I am in need of a travelling partner for a trip to france in 2012 as my usual one is not going next year. Will be leaving in the late hours of 14th september early 15th and returning on the 22nd (one weeks fishing). The lake itself is 15 acres and very nice and treelined with good sized level gravelled swims . the lake contains no crayfish or poisson chat there is no weed either to speak of . There is a very good head of carp both mirrors and commons the commons have gone to 60lb and mirrors are making high 50s there is a good number of 40lb+ fish and the average is something like 34-35lb . the cost will be around £275-£300 for the fishing and a optional food package is available for 110 euros, the food is excellent and consists of cerels and a full cooked breakfast orange juice and tea and a evening meal with desert,( you really will not want dinner). Other costs will be ferry/ train and a share of fuel,I have a van but it would be good if someone could share the driving. I live in the linc/cambs/norfolk border area but can put you up for the night if you need to travel to me or it may be possible to pick up on route to dover/ folkestone . I would say the water is more suitable for someone who has done a good bit of carp fishing rather than a beginer though the fishing is not mega hard if weather conditions are good ,you will need all your own gear. Anyone interested please PM me. Edited October 26, 2011 by fenboy

fenboy
Are there any Cats in there? There are but there has been a bit of a population explosion of them so lots of smallish ones this year I had a couple in my last trip only around 15lb they are draining down in the winter to remove almost all of them to keep the biomass correct he said they were just going to leave one or two of the big ones ,biggest this year was 88lb if i remember correctly ,caught lots of cats over here and they dont really float my boat to be honest ,its doing some very good carp this week 3 over 50 and a few 40s

Looked at dream lakes. Les masion and one or two others Take a look at fishinginfrance.co.uk and their Le Rocher lake, me and 5 other mates have been there twice and its fantastic, the lake is only around 7 acres with over 40 40lb+ fish and i think around 10-11 over 50lb+ upto 60lb+, the 60 is a common!! You can have the whole lake to yourself, they pick you up in minibus with a box trailer behind for the gear, the food was top notch, if you look at the 2008 catch log, thats me right at the bottom with the 42.8 mirror. I've been on the fishing France website but because I'm on my phone I can't view the price guide. Have u any idea on the price to hire the lake July early august time. Also what sort of fish did u finish the week with.

Looked at dream lakes. Les masion and one or two others Mate steer away from places such as dreamlakes , they are interested in nothing but taking your money I have spoken to lots of lads over the years who have finshed it and none will go back ,yes there are some decent fish but the whole holiday experience is awful and you dont get to hear about all the blanks in the advert . I have PM you with somewhere I recommend ,though he is almost fully booked for next year so be quick !
silver pigeon 3
Dreamlakes is ****, have been twice now. Went to Dreamlake 2 the season it opened and the swims were so close together it was a struggle to get 3 rods out, nearly had a full on fist fight with one of the baliffs as he decided to cast the bloke next doors rods out and put it across 2 of my lines!! and then refused to see what the problem was, so i pointed out the error of his ways 2nd time was on dreamlake 1 and it again was grief, very peggy and the atmosphere was awful! My favouite "commercial" lake is Cherpont, top notch people and ok but simple food. There are always spare swims to move to if you are not catching and it doesn't seem to be to peggy. It is not easy but if you work at it the rewards are there to be had. My best session there was 2x 50lb+, 6x 40lb + and another 16 20's and 30's. Will try to get back there maybe next year

Most of the fish in there are pearlers, when we went last it was around £500 each for 6 of us to hire the lake, that includes travel and 2 cooked meals a day. Its not a runs water and you have to work hard for your fish, but trust me the rewards are well worth it, last time we went we ended up with somewhere around 35 fish between us. When you get on your computer take a look at the catch records. Edited December 2, 2011 by MattSoanes
UKPoacher
I don't like this McFishing business. Even in the UK the carp brothels are run like working men's clubs with all the rules and emphasis on profit. France has thousands of lakes and miles and miles of rivers that are free to anyone who has a rod license. Many of them have carp and barbel far larger than you would catch in the UK and are truly wild fish; i.e. they don't have a name and photographs on the clubhouse wall of fame. We've just agreed a 12 month rent on a cottage in Charente starting in February. It is situated in the estate of a farm attached to a 14th century chateau and has all the cottagey things like a log burner and solid wood floors, but its water features decided it for me; a private pond and a 1Km stretch of the Vienne bordering the estate, starting 415 metres from the front door according to Google Earth. That will have carp to over 15 Kilos and barbel not much smaller. The cats will go twice that at least.

fenboy
there are some very comercialised fishery ,there are also , some excellent lakes that are more focused on giving you a good holiday in nice surroundings , with the chance of a decent fish or two. River fishing is fine if its your thing but few if any allow legal night fishing and you really need to do your reasearch as to where the fish are and in many cases you need a boat. I dont want a holiday on a crammed lake full of wide boys getting stoned / ****** with somebodys **** in the bushes in my swim which is just a slab of concrete , niether do I want to spend a week fishing a river where the fish could be miles away , security is a problem and you have to do you number twos in a hole in the ground ,let alone all the cooking and washing up. For me a holiday is just that a time to relax , be taken care of and with a little luck catch a lump or two.

For me a holiday is just that a time to relax , be taken care of and with a little luck catch a lump or two. That's exactly the opposite view I take. I enjoy doing the research, finding the swims that nobody has fished, casting to fish that nobody has caught, and trying to catch the specimens that lurk amongst the other residents. Putting three rods up in a swim that has barely been vacated by the previous angler, lobbing three baits out, and going to sleep until wakened by a mirror called 'Rambo' who's growth has been plotted more carefully than your baby daughter's holds no attraction to me. I don't tend to find **** in my swims because no one other than me goes there. Any competent angler can go camping in France, find a river or public lake and using the basics of water craft locate and catch specimen fish. There's a bit more to locating fish than looking for peg numbers in a catch book, but it isn't that hard, and you'll find real peace and tranquility without the incessant bleeping of bite alarms.
