Went for a walk this morning

Took demented cocker spaniel for a walk this morning. Bit of a slow ramble really, as she is almost 14 years old now, and not up to chasing hares for three fields anymore.

The good bits were: -

Extracted a large rat from one of the tunnel traps.

Lots of pheasants about from the ex layers that we released last year.

Several partridges seen, plus two hares. I've had this local shoot now for about ten years, and for the first couple of years we never saw any pheasants, partridge or hares due the large number of foxes and such.

We lamped 10 foxes in the first year, and also waged war on magpies, crows, rats and squizzies. Since then most of the animal vermin have been under control, and we are not too bothered anymore by lurchers. Don't get me wrong, I have mates who have lurchers, but nothing naffs me off more than lurcher boys who catch the leverets and such, and when caught say "Only having a bit of sport mate!".

The bad bits about the walk were: -

Nissing it down.

Some human vermin had nicked another fenn trap from one of the tunnel traps. Joe public are the biggest pain in the *** that we have on the shoot. We used to spend hours making larsen traps for the magpies, only to find them kicked to pieces.

I caught a couple of youths in the main wood once, and in return to my polite enquiry of "Excuse me but do you have permission to be here?", I was told that the countryside was free for access for all. When I pointed out that if this was the case, would they tell me where they lived and I would roam round their parents 'free' gardens, all I got was the expected abuse.

The silly beggars didn't realise that if they had been polite I would have asked them to join in the shoot if they wanted to. Ah well.

Finally, I got home in some dudgeon at having the trap nicked, but....

The postie had been, and my FAC Variation has come through for a 0.17 hmr :yp: :o :huh:

Now, what should I get - can I afford to wait til June and get a wooden stocked Sako Quad, or an Anchutz equivalent straightaway?

and as for which scope?:good:

Hooray, the sun does shine on the righteous after all :o :o :o

Nice read!!

Good luck with the HMR. Whish my sodding licence will arrive soon :yp:

We also have pheasants, but more often I find bird feathers after fox had got at them. hopefully .222 Tikka will deal with at.

Your 0.222 will be just the job :good::huh::huh:

I have a 0.223, and have shot almost as many foxes with it out of a tree hide as I have lamping. Making a tree hide is very easy. Just bait for a week 100 yards away, and then wait in the hide and that's it.
