Frenchieboy
I have never tried Wild Fowling and would like to try it once just for the experience. I don't want to travel too far - let's say maybe somewhere around 50 miles from where I live in East Lancashire, so if anyone os planning a session and could handle an extra novice (But very safe, fully insured and experienced "rough shooter") I would be greatly obliged. I have a Semi Auto (12 Bore) which will take 3 inch magnums and will accept steel shot but I do not have any experience of wild fowling whatsoever. If there are any "invites" forthcoming please could you advise on clothing, suitable cartridges and any other "basic needs" that I should bring. I do have transport (Not a 4X4) but I don't have a gun dog (Unless I can teach the wife to swim and retrieve for me)! Thanks in advance guys! Thanks in advance guys! its a hard one as both my clubs don't offer day tickets and wont even allow non shooting guests. If you contact BASC and ask for thier wildfowling permit book, it gives a list of those clubs that do partake in day tickets. Phone the contact given and explain your situation and something will generally be sorted BUT you do need to be a BASC member i think to get the book. Unfortunatly along the North west coast things aint easy, though the shooting is good
Matty7247
You could always try Scotland?? This is my first year wildfowling, and planning my 2nd trip to Scotland soon. Getting into clubs is very difficult, apply, and wait?? Good luck though.

Frenchieboy
Thanks for the replies guys! Kent - As I am a member of the SACS I really don't want to pay out for BASC membership as well so that is out of the question. Thanks for the input and the thought though! Matty7247 - Thanks for the idea but Scorland is a bit far for me to want to travel even though the wildfowling up there might well be first class. Again thanks for the thought. Pavman-Thank you for the very kind offer! I will have to check on the distance and might well take you up on your very generous offer. With regards to shot size and type, etc, that is why I asked about suitable cartridges! The last thing that I want to do is to fall fowl (No pun intended) of any laws or legislation! I will contact you when I can sort something out to arrange a mutually suitable date (Maybe a few weeks time) and then ask you to advise on what cartridges or "equipment" etc I will need to bring! Gandalf - Thank you also for your kind offer mate, it is appreciated! Edited November 10, 2011 by Frenchieboy

Gandalf - Thank you also for your kind offer mate, it is appreciated! FB we load our own carts nothing less than BB steel (4mm) on Geese unless you have hevi shot 3s are OK, most of us go T shot 4.7 mm or 5MM bigball in steel, if you can shoot 3 1/2 we have carts or you can try a 10 bore for size (we like a laugh) ref ins i think most clubs insist on BASC as they are all affiliated so you need to think about that, be good to see you out....... Grandalf is the local fowling Guru so you could end up worse off than in his hide, mind you as his star pupil over many a year (my words not his) we can see you alright may end up a joint venture! With BASC affiliated clubs (most fowling clubs are) a day ticket (guest) gets you one day's BASC insurance cover so it is no problem.

Now thats worth knowing, why do many ask for BASC for day permits then? Is it just to show you support them? i assumed it was to prove adequate cover

Is it just to show you support them? i assumed it was to prove adequate cover Maybe they don't read the printed word! (Or maybe they are not affiliated to BASC). BASC Syndicates are the same - As long as your permanent members are all listed and your guest list is not 'silly', then your guests are covered for a days shooting. You have to keep records, etc, but it is not a problem. (Just had a thought - are these people 'guests' and accompanied by a member of the club or are they persons who have just purchased a ticket to shoot on the piece of ground on their own)?
