flash
i am looking for a bipod for my dads lee enfield l39, we have bipods at the moment but none of them give a good fit to the sling thingy . we are looking for a more permanent attachment and was wandering what is needed for the attachment. the bipod in question can be unclipped from the attachment on the rifle when not needed. cheers flash
Dunkield
Flash, I think . . What you are descibing is Harris that attaches to the QD stud?? And what you are looking for is a Versa pod?? Even these are used by people who shoot out to extreme distances they are an acquired taste! Personally I find they flop about like a **** in a shirtsleeve, but others swear by them (not at them) EDIT: Having seen your other post with the picture of the gun, reverse what I have said above - looks you have the Versa pod and you want the Harris??? flash
on the gun is a harris but the stud on the enfield is big and fits badly to the bipod which mean the bipod is not very steady at all. this is the picture an in it there is a big gap between the bipod and the stock, only being held on by a grip on the QD stud. im sure its the versa pod im looking for. do u know how much they retail for. cheers flash
Baldrick
Are you not referring to the QD Parker Hale bipod, a different design to the Harris one? If so, it has a QD bolt that locks into a female socket at the end of the socket.
flash
this is a picture of it on our CZ .243 if found the versa pod website and it is exactly what im looking for, from the looks of it you buy the attachment and then you can buy a variety of different bipods to attach to it. from prone, standing and kneeling. versa pod cheers flash
Dunkield
That's the one. 60 quid from the optics warehouse
flash
why is it that you dont like them, i dont want to buy it and then find out it sucks. one thing about it that i like the look of is the atachment of monopod for standing shots and the big bipod for standing shots. cheers flash
Dunkield
why is it that you dont like them If I am shooting off a bipod I like to be locked up solidly so I only have to support the butt of the rifle some how. Versa pods allow the gun to twist on its axis and also backward and forwards - a lot! People that use either pull the gun back into their shoulder or push it forward. I have a feeling they now do one that locks up better than the original. It's just personal choice, loads of people shoot accurately over great distances with them, I just can't get on with them at all
Axe
Stuart SL has a versa pod on his AR-15 and that used to suffer big time. The biggest problem he had was down to the weight of the AR, it was a struggle to keep it from falling either side. He has apparently fixed this by over tightening the centre bolt. Like you I like a stable rest where the but just needs to be held in place, Harris for me.
Baldrick
OK, so the bipod you want is about as different from the Parker Hale version on the L96 as possible...... That's only suitable for prone shooting.
flash
to me it doesnt look to different to me bipod i may be wrong, the only difference is the clip for the bipod is built into the forestock. cheers flash

Baldrick
Parker Hale bipod, as used on the Accuracy International rifles, seen here on the Parker Hale M85 sniper rifle: http://www.snipercentral.com/m85.htm
rarms
They are the same thing are they not? Like rockmount and harris they probably differ in quality but they look pretty identical to me!
flash
and me. and the parker hale one is around the 300 qid mark, so i believe. i think i will go for the versa pod, they have a deal that if you buy it now you get two m,ounts with it so you can put one on each rifle and change easily between. cheers flash
Baldrick
I hate being a pedant, but trust me there are aesthetic and mechanical differences between the two. But yes, the PH version is pretty pricey, if you can find one for sale.....
