Morning chaps, hope we are all well...as the title says really, anyone on here had laser eye surgery or know of anyone that has??...i've worn specs for a long long time now and they are starting to annoy me, i've tried contacts on 3 different occasions and cant get on with them. I have heard good things and horrendous things about the surgery...can anyone shed any light on this subject please??

Daughter needs her eyes done as her sight isnt great - also keen to hear what has happened for others, seems to be a remarkable transformation.

The adds say 99.9% perfect outcomes - what is it one signs to get them off the hook if you are part of the .1%?

What happens to the treatment of those who make up the .1% ?

My eyesight is terrible, my eyes are totally different prescription, cannot shoot with both eyes open one bit....would have surgery tomorrow if I could afford it! Because my eyes are different and pretty feeble the quotes I've got are around £4500

When they say "From £295 per eye" thats for near perfect eyesight needing very minimal work

If you search this topic it has been discussed a few times before.

I had it done about 6 years ago. I had Lasik. Had sunlight sensitive eyes for a while but that went soon enough.

I went for an eye test recently and just out of interest, I didnt tell the optician that I had had it done. The first eye he made no comment, the second eye he asked if I had had laser eye surgery. (proving that the healing in one eye was invisible)

My eyes are still 20:20 now, I could tell the optician who made the chart  This doesn't then explain my terrible shooting

I did it 12 years ago but need glasses sometimes as 50 now, it does not stop normal eye muscle stiffening which means near sightedness. I did have some problems as I now have dry eyes, even for now knowing that, I am glad I did it and would still have had it knowing probs.

When I did it I saw an advert in the paper for a BOGOF ! I had it done at Optimax in Finchley Rd, very good, right opp the tube, they often do deals around Christmas I have noticed.

When I had mine done, there was no hard sell and in fact not everyone who wants it can. They seemed to go out their way to explain problems and drawbacks, if you can put contacts in and have your eye touched the op is no problem. The thing is that it IS surgery with all that involves, 99.9% no problem is good but not if your the one it goes wrong for, I was told sometimes they have to do it again, I now have dry eyes am I one of those 0:01% ?

Good luck whatever you decide, I don't know anyone who has had it who is not happy now.

unfotunately had to have laser in both eyes as i am a diabetic. painless procedure and very worth while only takes about 15 mins to do one eye. need to wait month between getting the other done. go for it. if going private make sure and get price before hand as some adverts say from £300. this is only for consultation and you can end up with a hefty bill. :good:

I had a consultation as I don't meet the standard to join the police. I'm diabetic so was expecting them to say I wasn't suitable. Apparently the procedure only takes less than 10 minutes for both eyes. As my eyesight is so poor it will cost just over £4000 for me. I haven't had the courage to do it and since getting in as a Police Special then PCSO I'm not sure if it is worth the risk, which there is not much to suggest what the effects could be later on in life having diabetes.

I had it done a couple of years ago and am delighted with the results. After 30 years of wearing specs, I couldn't wear contacts successfully as my eye had astigmatism in the unusual direction, so the weighted lenses didn't stay the right way up. Had it done at Moorfields by the "best" bloke in the country. My wife works at a posh private doctors and he's the chap they send their patients to. Anyway, it cost me about £4K, which was a real stretch, but I'm glad I had it done and it makes fishing and shooting as well as any activity in the rain far more enjoyable.

congrats at being accepted as a police special badly needed.the procedure is painless and you should consider it.if you keep your blood sugars under control laser is a benefit to you.on the other hand if you dont keep sugars under control you may need further laser and this can scar the eye tissue which is permanent damage so it is important to keep diabetes under control.i m sure you already know the better control the less complications you will have. :good:

My friend is a train driver on the Thameslink line with First Capital, he tells me that for some reason they are NOT allowed to have this procedure , and people who have had it done will not be taken on, he could not remember the reason, when I see him again I'll have to ask if he found out why.

Might just be the railway being behind the times, when I joined BR it had a strict no contact lens policy, that has changed now.
