bedwards1966
Does anyone know of any sporting clay shoots round the Scarborough area, I like the basic shoots that aren't really commercial (straw baler shoots are fine for me), but I can't find anywhere on the web as these places don't usually have websites. It doesn't matter if it's only on every 2 weeks or so like many small places, I'm not really into these large places that are on all the time, and can't really travel too far at the moment, or pay silly prices. I'm not new to clay shooting, so don't need tuition or to borrow guns etc, I'm just looking for a reasonable place to shoot. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Wesman
I think it's called cottondale near filey. I go when I'm on holiday at the caravan park up the road. It's a really nice ground. http://cottondaleshootingground.co.uk/

100milesaway
In that area I would reccommend Cottondale, it's in a lovely natural valley and had when i went a good sporting and compact layout. Also North wold puts some good shoots on and usually hosts a 100 bid registered shoot as a special event once a year, with some very tasty targets to be had. from Auntie. paulos
I shot at Wykeham a few years ago, that place was pretty good. Only been there once mind and don't have any contact details
Azzurri
Give Davey & Son a call at Wykeham (Gunsmiths) they'll be happy to help with any info you need Azzurri.
bedwards1966
Thanks for the reply's, Cottondale and Whitby gun club (I thought they were just rifles, do they have clays too?) aren't really my sort of place, they may be OK shoots but a little expensive and nice, I prefer the rougher straw baler places. What is the ground at Rydale like, I don't know anything about it? The shoot at Wykeham, what sort of a shoot was that, again I can't find any mention of it on the web, can you remember how to get to it? Both Wykham and Rydale are not too far away, but getting to places such as Stamford bridge and beyond starts to add up if going on a regular basis, considering fuel prices at the moment. bedwards1966
Give Davey & Son a call at Wykeham (Gunsmiths) they'll be happy to help with any info you need Azzurri. That's a sensible idea, I'll ask them too, they ought to know of local shoots
bedwards1966
Just to let you know, I called in at Davey & Son at Wykeham, found the chap there (forgot to ask his name) to be very helpful, he was able to give me more details on the shoot at Wykeham (it sounds like an OK place), and thanks to everybody on here for your help. Azzurri
If you join Wykeham Gun Club you'll be able to shoot in the League (if you want to) and get to shoot at some great Clubs around the area, really good fun and good targets too I haven't done much 'League' shooting for the last couple of years but i'm going to do some next year as i do enjoy it,maybe see you there Azzurri. bedwards1966
I think I'm probably quite a long way off league shooting, apparently you win by hitting the targets, not missing them
landyboy
dont worry about the league shooting its a relaxed affair it dosent matter if you shoot 10/30 or 30/30 there just some good banter and a cup of tea type of do's ! i followed my magnificent win up with 23/40 and even managed a 0 out of 8 on one stand !
