Davyo
I have been looking and pondering over buying a small 4x4 for simple farm tracks and pulling off the road into the field (not planning on trying to put it on its roof ect)Just a simple wagon for carring just the usual kit & no dogs. Was tempted by the grand vitara Tdi but would cause parking probs at home as have 2 x cars, thought the Jimney was a good option. But see one the other day and with the seats down it was still very small (no more space than the back of my Fiesta although more hight)Have been offered a 54 plate Diahatsu Terios sport, very clean & with the rear seat down(1seat down) there is ample space for a third passanger and all the kit & much more. Has anyone owned one before.I am aware that they dont handle too well on road (but i am no speed merchant)I only do 5000mls per year. The attraction is:it will not take up space on the drive:cheapest 4x4 road tax & and for the miles i will be doing i dont think the cost of fuel will break the bank.(i am awapping it for my mint 06 plate fiesta zetec s 1.6 tdi. 30 quid per yr road tax & knocking 60 mpg so i'm obviously going to notice a big differance hence the reason for a small 4x4(i must be nuts but if i continue taking it down lanes i'm gona end up wrecking it)& another reason not to buy a big 4x4.My wife has a new Fiesta 1.6tdi which i use most of the time anyway,so as i say the 4x4 will be only used by myself for travelling 6mls a day (30mls per wk) too and from work and for shooting on a Weekend. I would be greatfull for all advise good and bad. Thanks Dave

MITCHF
There's one on the estate where I beat and one of the beaters has one as well. I've never seen them get stuck and I'm told there reliable and cheap. Good Luck
kermitpwee
I have an auto terios and my average is 30mpg and I drive at a steady 50mph. I have had a 1998 Jimny and a 94 vitara, for comfort and space the terios is the best and it is very reliable. If you are doing a 100 or less miles a week then it will not break the bank on fuel. They don't have the same ground clearance as the Jimny but are still very good off road, I would never go back to the Jimny now and I do take it it to very bad spots but I have all terrain tyres. I couldn't stick the Jimny as I was doing 300 miles a week and it was a bone shaker, they are very good though. The terios would be better for you based on what you have said.
