Lampwick
I have seen loads of pigeons and blackies on a recently drilled field and thought I would have a pop at them this morning. Turned up and must have sent over hundred up!!! Set up the hide, decoys and rotary in anticipation the birds began to come back but 200 odd yeards out and I never got a shot in two hours!! Bloody cold too!!! I gave up and am about to have a toddy! Cheers Shippy
Redgum
Think we've all been there Shippy. I was out before light this morning in a highseat, got there in the moonlight at 6.30 but nothing showing but squirrels so I'm off now with the .22 lr to get a few of them. It was a tad nippy sitting still for a few hours but what a lovely morning. No doupt I will see fallow, Roe, Munties and Boar while I'm out late but I can't be bothered to carry two rifles. Its not always about killing.

Vince Green
They know! I don't know how but they know. Empty your gun and put the cartridges away and the sky will be full of them as you walk back to the car.

Funny you should say that but on the two occasions I poured a tea from the flask a bird flew past in range Go figure! Same happens when I'm match fishing, stare at the float for ages still as a ******, look away and back again to see the float pop up from a bite!!! KFC
been there too. Favourite way to decoy them I've found is to turn my back for a pee. Wait 'til mid-flow then look over my shoulder. It's guaranteed there'll be a flock of 200 all committed to land. Seriously though, I often have a couple of bird scaring rockets handy. If they are consistently landing along way out then I'll set one off to go over the top of them. They'll scatter in all directions at first before regrouping and many may come in range giving a shot or two.
