Sharpshooter.123
Is it steel shot proofed and what are the chokes?

12borejimbo
You will be fine aslong as you dont have 3/4 and full chokes. Otherwise it will make the end of your barrell like a blunderbuss. Lead can mould if it gets squashed, stell wont. Hence why you have to use 2 sizes below when shooting steel. Example, a good game cardridge, 32g number 5, Steel cartridge, 32g number 3!
HDAV
Unless its lightly chocked an HP steel 3" proofed your probably better buying non toxic steel alternatives not cheap but better performance Edited December 14, 2011 by HDAV
huey
The gun is choked 1/4 and 1/2. Spoke to GMK today and they seem o think that gun is fine for steel shot but not high performance loads. thats a shame because I have two boxes of RC high performance 32g #4!! Im sure it will be fine. They say that top cover their bums. Beretta make quality shotguns and are proofed to use the high pressure steel loads. HDAV
Beretta make quality shotguns and are proofed to use the high pressure steel loads. Then why doesn't it have the HP steel proof marks?
-Mongrel-
Take a look at the link , it gives you some facts and will help you make an educated choice. I am going to put standard steel loads through my Beretta 301, will just keep the choke open although I am going to pattern plate it. Search the BASC website for a PDF entitled 'Steel Shot', it won't link up properly. Edited December 14, 2011 by -Mongrel-

Hareraiser
I have seen this question come up on other sites and the common answer, from Beretta, was that non-steel proofed barrels on their guns were safe with steel with the chokes described if held to 32g and #4 or smaller shot. huey
Thanks for all the useful posts. I have checked the pressure test stamp on the barrels which reads 1390 which I assume to be bar? Anyway after much deliberation I think I am safe in using HP steel shot with 1/4 and 1/2 chokes as long as I dont over step 32g #4's I'll post some photos if my barrels split.... Huey, Are you still in the land of the living and not completely dismembered? I've got a similar issue with my Beretta collention '95. My local dealer said it'd be fine no more the 1/4 choke... But it was a "ach what you scared of lad" comment rather than factual...
JJsDad
GMK are advising you correctly. Unless its bearing the proof mark for high pressure steel you should stick to normal steel loads and no tighter choke than half. If the barrels split as you suggest; please let us have a few photo`s of whats left of your fingers as well !
