Last morning at the geese this year.

Had a morning decoying geese with my pal, we hadn`t been out much as I have been too busy with my course work and he is a postie and therefore kinda busy in December.

We knew there were greys in the area and there usually are pinks that will pass close by. It took 5-6 attempts to just get into the field as the access is at about 45` uphill and the recent rain made it all the harder.

As dawn broke we could hear the geese about 1/4 mile away on a big splash and they stayed there until about 9-45 when they lifted and came towards us. Most went wide but we had a small pack come in and the first bird was mine with paddles down and an easy shot.......easily missed.

The skeins panicked and swirled about and landed in a grass field behind us. These sat there for a while and some others responded to the call and came in to us but we both missed.

When the birds had dispersed we had a good load come over my left shoulder which meant I again got the only shot and dropped the only goose of the morning. We gave it another 15 minutes or so and then called it a day as the geese were off to pastures new.

I had hoped to have got a few video clips, however my big frozen mitts kept switching the camera to stop when I thought it was play, so some pretty rubbish clips of grass and feet etc. Still the scenery was fantastic and if the bird was more photogenic than bloody it would also have featured.

Sorry for the muck heap, I couldn`t get it shifted in time

Perthshire looks as lovely as ever - passed through earlier this month for an awesome day at pheasants in a gale in Angus - what a cracking day that was, which is more then can be said for the hotel in Kirriemuir - a strange kind of place!

Happy New Year and thanks for all the entertainment in 2011 Henry D
