decroyffe
Well it looks like I'm going to keep the 200tdi and a few quid needs spending. The shocks and springs are shot so I've been looking into replacements. From general advice heavy duty is worth the extra few quid but I'm not upto date with what's what so if anyone has used the following could you please let me know what you think. The three main contenders all in the same price bracket are, britpart super gaz, britpart cellular dynamic, and pro comp es 9000. All three can be bought as a kit, springs and shocks but the pro comp which are £10-20 more come with all the bolts etc. They'll be bought as standard height and used mainly on road but frequently on the farm, dirt tracks lanes etc Atb, decroyffe Edited December 30, 2011 by decroyffe
WelshLamb
they dont refer to britpart as sh*tpart for nothing pro comp arent so great these days either. Save up the extra few £, and go terrafirma
decroyffe
Terrafirma do a similar kit at more or less the same price but it states light load. For a medium load it's another £50. Also I've got to keep in mind what I've already spent on the vehicle, what still needs spending and the fact I only want it for a year or two?? WelshLamb
light load should do you ok. do you tow with it?? unless youre towing plant/machinery, you shouldnt need HD springs!!
woodcock1
I havnt bought springs from them but I would avoid britpart ones. Some things are O.K. but suspension components wouldnt be one of them. Terrafirma seem to be the way to go.
decroyffe
No I don't tow. I do have a bit of weight in the boot from time to time but never for long periods. I've been lead to believe the hd springs improve the ride and comfort which is what I'm after more than and off road performance. Also what do you know about Armstrong?? If britpart and pro comp arnt much cop and terrafirma are a little pricey then there's a kit with standard springs and Armstrong shocks for £60 less?? WelshLamb
Have never heard of Armstrong, so cant comment. Have you tried bearmach? theyre kit is usually pretty good stuff, and fairly priced
decroyffe
Only recently heard of bearmach because the pro comp kit comes with bearmach springs. I think Armstrong are as standard as you get hence the price. Does anyone know who makes land rover suspension parts??
BaconBoy
rangerover classic standard springs(more heavy duty/stiffen up the ride and cheaper).i put these on a defender(advised by craddocks) and they worked.i presume they would fit a disco aswell.i'd check first though
decroyffe
Thanks welshlamb, woodcock1 and baconboy. I've had a look and I can get a terrafirma set for £20 more than the britpart and pro comp so it's a no brainier regarding that price bracket however I'd be still interested if anyone knows of a cheaper set that offers reasonable performance:-))
mrwabbits
A pair of TDi Disco front springs put on the rear should give you an instant HD ride performance, add in a pair of caravan tow spring assistors ( circular type between 2 coils) and jobs a good un
matt32
My 300tdi disco had a full set of HD Britpart suspension fitted about 3 years ago. The rear shocks were replaced with pro comps last year and i've just ordered 2 HD Bearmach springs for the rear today as the old ones are sagging really bad. Keep well away from Britpart suspension. What a load of rubbish.
Dr_evil
The britpart super's are decent not the usual **** you get from them However I'd go pro-comp as thats what I use

Save up the extra few £, and go terrafirma Sorry but it's wrong to say that, yes some of there stuff is on the low quality side but the price tag reflects that, however buy a 3 piece britpart clutch kit for a 300tdi and you'll find on opening the britpart box the clutch friction and pressure plate are reboxed valeo units, nowt *hit or cheap about that, and i'm able to buy them in for less than half the price i'd pay for a valeo boxed 3 piece kit td5 wheel bearings are also good quality kit reboxed as are free lander clutch cylinders I could go on .... and on

decroyffe
Thanks for the advice everyone inpitcular chefy and his kind offer. I'd did look at the terrafirma but once you've bought the retainers, turet rings and all the nuts and bolts, it then becomes very expensive, so it looks like I'll go with the bearmach pro comp combo kit that includes everything I'll need to do the job. Thanks again chefy for the offer it's very kind of you. I should be ok though but if things change I'll take you up on it Kind regards

BPN
Hi, On a budget the HD Yellow standard height Britpart springs coupled to the HD Armstong front and rear shocks is a decent set up, Britpart now offer a 2yr warranty on their parts, this kit itself would totally transform the handling.
