charlie
Hi lads, I have a pole trap given to me by an old now deceased, gamekeeper, It was made by James, Hungerford. Well that is what is stamped on it. I am trying to find out more about it. Like what the makers full name was, age, how long ago was it made, that type of thing, just out of curiosity. Its been in my shed, twenty years. THanks , Charlie.

Hi Bobt, I dont think you will find many, I was keeper, my brother has been akeeper for 30 plus years, And Iknow at least 6 more and they said they had never even seen one. Only heard of them. They have been banned since 1904.u can own one as long as it is never used, They are very collectable now I have been informed,They are a barbaric tool and you would have to be a very cruel person to even think about useing one, Cheers Charlie. darebear
ok, can someone explain to me what a pole trap is?
HAMMY
OK Darebear, you know now that the European borders have been opened up and lot's of Eastern Europeans are coming to the UK for work, well in times gone by these traps were set at well known landing points for the illegal Polish immigrants, it's a large spring loaded clamping mechanism, that when sprung decapitates the illegals, hence the name Pole trap.
