andy74
Any of you left handed shooters here ever shot, or own a standard right hand semi auto shotgun? Just wondering if it is safe to do so, what with the cartridges flying out towards your face. Im soon to be in the market for a new gun, and quite fancy a semi auto, but as soon as you price left handers up, the prices suddenly increase. You may not get hit by the empties ejecting, but you will get burnt powder blown back into your eyes. Take the hit and pay the extra few quid for a south paw. I thought the same, but a couple of people have told me that they have shot one, and got on with them ok. Just wanted to find out for sure. Thanks for the tip. Andy75
or there's that new Browning? Benelli? that has a carbon fibre stock etc and ejects out of the bottom, just behind the loading tray. very nice, and ambi dextrous :yp: ...quite scary about the user name too chap
andy74
Just a bit, thought i had signed in wrong at first. Do you have any idea on prices for the browning or bennilli bottom ejectors, as budgets not huge ( unfortunately ).
MC
I am right handed and shoot a RH semi, and I got an eyeful of burnt powder a while ago. Believe me it hurts. Even if you could put up with the sight of the cartridges flying out across your face , the eyeful of soot every shot would soon put you off. I would seriously consider a LH semi. andy74
Cheers guys, looks like im gonna have to spend a bit more than i was going to, unless anyone knows of a nice L/H semi going at a good rate?
Baldrick
I'm a southpaw and I used a R/H Beretta semi for a while. Every trip out ended in tears, literally. I never got walloped by ejected cases, but I got a face full of detritus each time. Buy a Benelli L/H........
Andy75
I think I found it - its the Benelli Super Sport - there is one on Guntrader, but she's a little bit expensive....nice looking piece though!

Andy75
no its listed under RH, but it should be the bottom ejector. Not sure what the cast is like on the stock though - might ruin the LH experience altogether, but chances are its a true ambi shotgun and therefore no cast at all. edit - balls I've messed up - its not the benelli at all. just found some other views of it, and its still a side ejector, sorry m8 Found it - its a Remmy : http://www.remington.com/products/firearms...odel_105CTi.asp
Baldrick
Nope, I's hold out for a Benelli.
andy74
Cheers for the advice guys, will have to get saving, and speaking to the misses nicley, and read the reviews about both guns to see which ones good value, and of course budget is a major issue, as i think the remmy might be a little bit to expensive. Andy75
Nope, I's hold out for a Benelli. I agree with Balders - my Franchi is made by Benelli, and I'm very very pleased with it Just not sure how many left hookers there are out there
andy74
Thats exactly the problem, not many left hookers about, and the ones that are seem to be a bit pricey
mry716
Im righthanded but shoot a RH semi LH'ed and have done so since 1968 when I had my first - a Browning. Presently I have an Escort and have never had a problem. At some point some debris will catch you out but its so infrequent dont even consider it. If you can afford it, the new Rem looks a treat and I might even consider one myself if they can do it with an 8 shot mag for 3" carts. converse320
I'm, left handed and use a friend's RH semi auto sometimes. Never had probs with burnt powder, but I can see how you might. I find it much more awkward than using an RH SS lefthanded - so wouldn't recommend buying a RH semi if you are lefthanded. Wait until you can afford a LH gun
andy74
Cheers again guys, if any one does come accross a nice L\H semi auto, for the right price then please bear me in mind.
the last engineer
Sorry i cant see how badly you get affected by shells across the face shooting a r/h semi. the point i heard, burnt powder in the face. Martincavie states he's a righty and had an eyefull, sorry guys where are your glasses ? no excuses i shoot 4-6 semis all of which are r/h, i have yet to suffer powder burn or shells hitting the face. i shoot thousands of rounds through these guns as LB an tell you, i dont get it, please explain to a southpaw Martin
andy74
Cheers again guys, if any one does come accross a nice L\H semi auto, for the right price then please bear me in mind. so presumably a southpaw is a left hander, and youve been shooting R\H semis for a while, and never had a problem? If thats the case, great for me, as it saves me a fair chunk of cash, to spend on other wonderful goodies
Andy75
..and make sure you use some shooting glasses Hate to think what it'd be like to get a faceful of that out the port
the last engineer
GLASSES ALL THE TIME how many of you guys shoot without ? why risk the chance of loosing an eyeball, it only takes one in the pupil your screwed, how about this then, would you go get an angle grinder and hack at a pc of steel with no specs i work in an enviroment that demands by law the use of safety glasses, as a kid back home in the UK the same in the toolroom i worked, god help you if you went to the forman with fb's in your eye from work, you'd end up with a size 10 up your jacksee, all the grounds i shoot at require glasses to compete, this is a good thing as the number of younger shooters is growing, set a good example now. in the field im told its different ,,,,,,,,, sorry dont get it same gun, same loads, same risk. Baldrick
Fair point, I wasn't wearing glasses when I was shooting that R/H semi, but I realise that's an error. I'd still buy a L/H semi if I had to buy a semi.
MC
TLE, I know I should have been wearing glasses. I do as a matter of course now. Cheers Martin
