Sensible comments please.....

What are these engines like, are they as robust as the earlier ones? Whats the expected MPG (not that this would stop me buying it  )

Anything particular i need to look out for?

Cheers

Good choice in vehicle, the 300tdi is an excellent engine which rarely go wrong. My Defender has got 230,000 miles on her 70,000 of which I have put on and the only thing I have had to replace was the water pump as the bearing collapsed (£19.00 + an hour tops to fit it yourself) I put a new clutch in her when the clutch fork went (common problem) and also replaced clutch fork with a heavy duty one all for less than £100 again fitted myself as they are very easy to work on. MPG wise they are not very good, but no 4x4 of similar size and weight are, it will do on average between 28-30 and thats only if driven sensible.

Look out for the dreaded rust on chassis, main areas are outriggers and rear crossmember all easily changed if need be for not alot of money apart from that check the id of the vehicle numbers and tags match as there are quite a few iffy ones about but most of all enjoy your new Landy. :good:

Just did a bit of research for a disco 300 tdi and it seems the engines get transplanted into another landy after the original rusts to bits,so engines are good its the chassis/boot floor/arches/cills/cross members that all rust to bits,it seems landrover didnt bother protecting these from new other than a bit of paint

Ther are some simple and cheap mods that can be done to give this engine more performance and better fuel economy/like adjusting the boost guage etc.

Have a look on 'landyzone' :good:

Its a 1995 300tdi 6 seater, i paid £ for it. i looked at cheaper ones but figuered i would spend more to get them right so would end up spending about this much in the long term anyway. Not sure if it's the right choice, i'll let you know in twelve months.

I have an N reg 300 tdi, its got lots of dents and scratches but there is a story behind all of them- put a roof mounted lamp bracket on it for solo lamping, getting a few corrosion patches but just love em. The more battered they get the better they are.

I see a few that are done up to the nines with every mod going, but i never see them with mud on?...

Nice looking vehicle, welcome to the joys of Landy ownership.
