scotland rifles
you will get so much info on both rifles it will confuse the matter. its down to you and no one else, if you can get to shoot both the above rifles then do so. and than make up your mind, for starters, i don't like the 22 wmr, but i love the HMR. BUT thats me and not you enjoy the confused comments to follow. bob.

As bob says - it's a personal preference - I am the opposite, I like the WMR and don't like the HMR, for the simple reason the WMR packs a bit more punch and most of my shots are around the 100 yard mark. The 17 HMR won't always get the ok from FEO/police for foxes but i think there is no problem with the WMR... Plus WMR ammo is pretty widespread and big selection to choose from, I have shot foxes with both at similar ranges. Salop Matt
Personally for me it has to be the .17HMR everey time. I got rid of my .22lr as the 17HMR did everything i wanted and more and did it better ! The 22lr just sat unused and the same story with my shooting buddy. The WMR just didnt even get a look in and ive never been tempted by one either !
Mr_Logic
For just rabbits, the 17 HMR wins, for rabbit and the odd fox it's the WMR. 22 Hornet is better than both but is centre fire and needs reloading. Personally in your situation, 22 WMR for me.

Guest topshot_2k
I own both, .22WMR is great for close foxing, for rabbiting i use the .17hmr unless its windy!
Underdog
I love the wmr, it works to around the 125yard mark which to me is where the most shots are taken. Years ago folk tried comparing it to Hornet but I always felt that was unfair. It is capable of longer shots, I seen plenty. I just prefere a bit more bullet mass down range than the 17. I not slagging the 17, no Siree. Your call! U.
Dekers
I have 2 x .22lr, 1 x HMR, 1 x WMR, etc., etc., etc. The HMR wins hands down over the WMR for "rabbits", but if I think Charlie may stick his head up as well the WMR comes out with me! More grunt, bigger hole and easy fox out to sensible distance with WMR. (not that the HMR can't do fox either ) Not sure how else to put it, but anyone who has both you will know what I mean.
