12borejimbo
Im after a smock for my all round shooting/workhorse jacket. I have looked at the Nomad smocks which I would love but £400 is top money. I was thinking of either the Ridgeline monsoon or the Rivers west. What do you guys have or what would you choose and why? Fatcatsplat
The Rivers West looks a neat bit of kit but only comes in up to 2XL for some obscure reason.

Salopian
I have yet to find anything to beat a Swandri smock. Warm, shake it dry when soaking wet easily stitchable when torn. But best of all it was 20 dollars new when bought as PPE in New Zealand, twenty years ago and still going strong. On a politically correct note:- Black men do not sweat when on a rape charge. They do if you ask them to work or to come off benefit.
mudpatten
Rivers West alternative name - Rivers of Sweat. I once owned a Barbour Solway smock for a brief period. Never mind the issues with waxed cotton, the over-the-head smock design was the most impractical piece of clothing I`ve ever had the misfortune to wear. A struggle to get on in any event, and a struggle to get off especially when wet. If you`ve sat in mud whilst fowling, or for any other reason, you have to pull that over your head and it is impossible to vent excess heat during periods of excertion simply because there is no front fastener to open. Some people like smocks! Sadly I ain`t one of `em. Good luck with whatever you select but you did ask what we`d choose.I`d choose a conventional jacket over a smock every time. rabbit killer
ive got a country covers one, its good for waterproofing- water just runs off, not soak in. the only problem is that its not very thick, you have to wear a jumper with it in winter. woodcock1
There is only 1. Swazi Tahr. And it is waterproof and breathable. I have spent some really wet days here in Ireland woodcocking beating etc and never got wet. Its the first waterproof coat Ive had, and Ive had a few upto and over £250. They were all rubbish compared. The only slight improvement I could make is that the cuffs are made of a neoprene type fabric and soak water which leaves the cuffs of your shirt/jumper wet.
