pigeon controller
DB and I were invited to a new farm on Friday which was a bit wierd as the field was on the top of a high ridge and the edge that we were shooting from was very steep approx 200 feet. This gave us some challenging shots also some very long retrieves for the dog.The challenging shots were caused by the updraught hitting the birds as they were approaching the decoy pattern this tended to freeze the birds for a split second as they came in, then as they passed over us they would suddenly gain height. The farmer is a distant relative to one of our regular shoots and contacted us to see what we could do.We ended the day with 93 after some memorable shooting. Over night we had two farmers phone asking us to come out and shoot so we set out at 08.00 with the temp -5 we drove to the first farm and pushed about two hundred off the field and set up. After a very cold hour we had nine birds, we could see the birds in the distance on a farm that has a no shooting rule, so we left them and proceded to the second farm which had about fifty in the trees and nothing on the rape. we saw the farmer and he informed us that he had been shooting them off all yesterday. So we thanked him for that!!. Why phone us then spook them?? Any way we set up in a ditch on the edge of the rape to be out of the wind. It had now warmed up to -2. We actually decoyed behind us and shot birds as they were on their final approach between two trees and ended the day with 61, you will see that I was hugging the dog in the photo as he was warmer than I was

What I want is to talk through how we approached each days shooting and hopefully people will remember and use it in their neck of the woods and have a great day. You did this today by shooting a flight line. Well done again.
