tomhw100
Seriously mate DON'T get one I thought mine would be fine 2005 plate, updated air filter, temperature gauge and it wasn't like I said above,it was surprisingly ok off road but I was just kidding myself when I got it.your either going to be extremely lucky if it turns out ok...or extremely skint and stressed I Iike everyone else who's owned one....the choice ultimately is yours though. Chard
I had an 02 plate Freelander for 3 years from new Nice to drive and I didn't think it was too bad off road, but what a **** car New gearbox after 7000 miles :o IRD unit went, plus some shaft thing, and a few minor problems, like spluttering and giving up if I drove through a shallow puddle too fast Got to say it came with a fantastic warranty though, none of the above cost me a penny and they always gave me a courtesy Disco when they had it in for repair, which was often. As soon as the warranty expired, I got rid. There's no way I would have one without a full warranty on it.
ferguson_tom
If you budget is 2k i would not look at a freelander, we paid 7k for a mint example on 53 plate and its been a bit of a dog with faults but is a lovely car to drive and be in. My colleague had one from new (04 plate) and has put 90000 miles on it and it has not gone wrong once with regular servicing and care, its whole life it towed a 1600kg caravan most weekends so didnt have an easy life. Most of freelanders unreliability come from the 1.8 petrol and early electrical problems. The TD4 engine is a nice engine if a little underpowered but that can be recitified. They also have a habit of VCUs wearing out. Apart from that there is not much more that goes wrong on them than any other landrover. For your budget I would look at a nissan terrano.
