Aaz
Hi Is there anyway of telling if the power is down on an air rifle without the additional cost of a chrono, I've recently bought a 2nd hand BSA Tactical XL 177 and I'm not sure whether its low on power or not, haven't been shooting for yrs so I've got no real reference? I did fire a few pellets into a coke can with a pallet behind yesterday, the pellets, JSB Diabolo Exact 0.547g went into the timber about 3-4mm and bounced out at a distance of 20yds, I'd have thought they would bury themselves?!? If I need to invest in a chrono can you give some recommendations, don't really want to spend much more than 50 quid as I need to invest in some camo netting Appreciate any pointers Thanks Aaron
deershooter
CB625 only about £40 the other way is to shoot a phone book with a rifle of a known foot pounds with the same pellet then compair the damaged page no Deershooter
Hamster
CB625 only about £40 the other way is to shoot a phone book with a rifle of a known foot pounds with the same pellet then compair the damaged page no Deershooter Yes, and another way is to shoot and retrieve pellets from a solid, flat object like a marble tile for instance. The known rifle pellets can then easily be compared to those from the suspected one, not scientific but will do and may well surprise you anyway. Often guns that shoot softly or quietly are mistakenly thought to be down on power.
secretagentmole
Just buy a Combro! £41 including postage is a damned site safer than any phone book test, just buy one, cheaper than a defence solicitor and court fees! Aaz
thanks Gents, just about to order the Combro, didn't realise these were so inexpensive
secretagentmole
They are also damned accurate, mine is within 5 feet per second of an RFDs calibrated £200 chrono (it reads within 5fps fast, I think it is because they are right against the barrel)! deershooter
Just be careful having your air rifle cronoed by an RFD ,if its .00000000000000001 foot pounds over 12 f lb it is against the law for him to return it to you. I am not advocating that you should have a air gun that is too powerful without a license its just best to try and make sure its not over the UK 12 foot pounds limit before you take it to him . Aaz
Well received the Chrono and so glad you guys recommended it, I'm astounded and shocked by the results and I think its probably best if I don't detail them to all and sundry! Not sure of my rights as I bought the air rifle secondhand but a phone call to the gun shop first thing in morning me thinks!

Aaz
so how is this combro any good and nice to use/mount on gun. Its not a bad bit of kit for the money, after today I reckon its a worth while investment of 40 quid
secretagentmole
Right before you go mad, go over the settings again, make sure you have the right pellet weight in. Google the pellet you are using if you do not have scales, you should be able to find the weight there. Make sure you are entering the weight in the right bit, I mean if you put 14.3 grains in as grammes the results will be amazing! Anything else PM me as I have been in the same situation and found mine was a genuine brown trouser job after a check by an RFD!

Jega
Gents heres a really good pellet data base which details most of the popular pellets out there, it gives weight ,size B.C. etc.really essential information when using a chrono. Hope you find it useful. http://www.photosbykev.com/wordpress/2009/01/20/air-rifle-pellet-database/ Edited February 11, 2012 by Jega
