Paul T
Just seen this thread - knew he was terminally ill, but his passing is still a surprise somehow. Only knew him through his writings, but he was obviously much more than just a writer - he got out there and did it, and I think that's what made his pieces so enjoyable to read. The shooting community has lost a great ambassador of the sport. Condolences to family and friends.

Aled
Absolutely, the end of an era. Rip John, him Colin Willock (town Gun)and Fred J Taylor were some of my favourite writers in the S/t My thoughts are with his familly Funny you (and other's here) should mention Colin, and Fred, on the same thread as John Humphreys passing. They entered my head as well, when i saw this thread, along with John Darling, Hugh Falkus, and Arthur Oglesby. These were the fieldsportsmen whose work i read as i was growing up. There are very few left. Aled Edited February 9, 2012 by Aled
Miserableolgit
Quite a number of tributes to JH in the ST this week. I found his last Country Gun article a difficult, and moving, farewell.
