If you are looking for just an illuminator and not a laser try the Cobra 150mW unit.

I have one which I used for a long time before I bought a laser and it was very good out to sixty yards.

A good alternative is an IR filter for your lamp.

Yep, DIY on this one. I used to use a Clulite Blazerlite on the 223 for 200 yards plus. All you needed was the lamp with the fitting for a pop in filter and then a 3mm sheet of IR perspex - about 6 by 8.5" for about £10 from Ebay. Just refurbished an old mini lazer (50 watt) to do the same and it's looking good - don't know how good yet as I've only tried it in the back garden on to some distant trees, but I'm certain it'll more than suffice for LR.
