BlaserF3
Good idea but when you die you still need an RFD to come and collect them and your trusted parties are in possesion ? My direct experience was when my grandfather died, police were insistent the guns were removed that night! No waiting for reading of wills! Having found her father dead in the garden my aunt and mum then had to hunt the house for the keys...... My uncle has SGC so police put them on his ticket there and then and he had to take them home and cram them into his cabinet, had my grandfather gone into hospital or on holiday ( as many of us do) the guns would have stayed in his cabinet safe and fine but because he was dead that wasn't good enough.... I don't know what would have happened if they didn't find the keys? But my guess is a hefty charge from a 24 hour locksmith!!!! Might get myself a key box mind Who told the police that your Grandfather had died? I cannot see the harm in leaving them in a cabinet at all. What happens if a shooter goes on holiday and leaves the keys at home or should he hand his guns over to an rfd while he is away, come on lets have a bit of common sense. It's procedure in a sudden death, the police turn up (not sure if they were called by the family or not) and must have done a PNC check it was virtually the first thing they asked about when they arrived. We could not see the issue either and despite trying to reason with them it made no difference as we all know firearms legislation is one thing.... Police particularly the bobby's interpretation is another! I agree there was no issue with them being left in cabinet for a week while a Sect 7 was issued, but how do you prove they are in the cabinet? I think the reality is we should all make our own suitable arrangements and hope that it is as minimally disruptive for our families as possible. scobydog
I assumed a locksmith would pick the lock? Thought drilling out was a last resort for jammed mechanisms? Not on a gun cabinet lock, it should be 7 lever with a steel curtain so it cannot be picked, you drill 5 mill hole in certain place and raise each lever individually until all done then turn whole lot and BOB is your uncle. Just a quick note,my feo said tell the missus where spare keys are to save paying for a locksmith, just make sure you trust her!
