coupe312
i think a lot of good advice has been given here, make sure you do everything you can to silence your rifle as well as possible, ie sound mod soft cover to back stop ect. a good back stop is a bag of sand with a hard boad behind it. although unless fac there is know way the pellect will get though. i used to have a steel plate that help a piece of lead flashing in that worked well with a large sheet of ply uncase i got the odd flyer. go to you local cop shop and ask advice, i think as lg said the projectle must not leave your garden. with hindsight ( prob spell wrong) i would have asked to see the bird and look for the pellets in it suposive shot carcus. Quist
First tell your dad. He may have leaned on you cos your dad was out. Rows between neighbours can cause serious grief and devalue property prices so don't get bloody minded and drop everyone in it. If your dad is ok with it, construct a safe backstop in your garden out of 8x4 shuttering ply with a sheet of steel behind with returns all round so that there's no chance of a richochet. Only shoot at targets, never birds, even pests locally. Only a fool poops on his own doorstep. Get your dad to pop round and tell him you only target shoot at a safe target and you don't shoot birds so, if he found a dead one, it wasn't you. Get a sound moderator, the less people know what your doing the better. Whatever happens, continue being polite to your neighbour. Revenge is a dish better eaten cold. Screw this up and you could wait years for an FAC later. Find out when he's out, shoot then. Get a permission from a farmer by going and asking. Jimjim
I personally would rise to the guys claims and tell him to approach the police with the bird carcass and PROVE you shot it. When the results come back negative i would ask for a full appology. There is NO law against the use of an airgun (in a propper manner) being used in your own garden provided your projectiles do NOT leave your boundaries and you are not acting in a way likely to cause harm or damage to other people or property. The bird most likely is or WAS a fledgling who flew the nest a little soon and either died of hunger/exposure or a cat got it. If everyone who found a dead bird claimed it was shot with an air rifle your local police station's switch board would look more like a christmas tree. Me! I would ring the police myself and inform them the Neighbour came over with a threatning manner and was slandering. LG I agree with Lord Gordie!! young gun
I had a similar thing happen to me i was shooting out behind my garden in some fields that my garden backed onto and i had permission from the farmer to be there and was shooting at some tin cans, I was shooting away from the houses. all of a sudden i had one of my neighbours come walking through the field to me swearing and shouting that i could hit her house with a ricochet which wasn't going to happen as i had a safe backstop behind my targets so there could be no ricochets and i was a good distant from the house i don't know how she even knew i was shooting as we where far enough away you couldn't hear the shots from my house which was closer than hers, she then told me she'd phoned the police, however as we explained to her she can phone the police all she wants as we wern't breaking the law. The police turned up somewhen the next day when i was out but all they asked was to see where we were shooting and then left and nothing more happened about it as we had not broken a single law and where shooting safely. ronttuk
i may be bloody minded,i might be arrogant, but if im in the right and not breaking any laws and a nosy neighbour complained to me or my kids for anything i would tell them where to go! i dont believe in causing problems or going out of my way to find problems as far as im concerned its live and let live, i dont moan at the local asian family for cooking with the windows open and making my garden smell of curry or do i have a go at the next door neighbour when they go in the shed and cannabis smoke fills my garden, even when our local teen scooter rider has his mates round and round and round and round the block they go, so what it dont hurt, as long as no one is acually being harmed then what the hell why cant everybody be "live and let live"!! darebear
muahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha this reminds me of a story scaffy's mother told me..... when he was a child, scaffy had been practising with his air rifle in the back garden. scaffy got a clip around the lug, because the old codger next door came around complaining, because little scaffy had knocked all the heads off his prize tulips

the last engineer
I think baseball should be banned. your not alone, its the most boring "sport" out there. as was tol to me years back, the pellets may not stray your boundries or your in deep do-do. have you spoken to your father of the incident, you said the visit was after he left, i assume you have permision from your folks, so have them inform the neighbour to mind his own, and not threaten his son. dont get involved yourself, take all precautions eg,pellet traps and safe area no flyers, good luck young en.
