Poacher
Guys i'd be interested to hear what your procedure is for cleaning the externals of your rifle when it gets soaked in a downpour. Do you remove barrel and action from stock and dry off or leave in warm place in the hopes it drys out or otherwise
al4x
mine gets a basic dry down with kitchen roll then a wipe with an oily rag and left in a warm place to dry, but then stainless synthetic helps I just don't want to put something wet in the cabinet. Schmoo
I strip mine down, learnt my leson once after only wiping a rifle down really well and putting away in cabinet after letting it air dry too for an hour or so, when I got it out of the cabinet a week later the blueing where the rifle meets the stock and jnder the stock had a lot of surface rust, wont do that again. Now I strip it down dry and wipe it over with oil, I put that in the cabinet and hand dry the wood and leave that in a bedroom on a flat surface to air dry, never put it on radiator or in airing cupboard, it may dry the wood out too fast. I think I may get a hmr in stainless and synthetic, these might be more durable when a rifle might get wet. Schmoo.
Poacher
i have to admit im in the 'just wipe it down' camp but after last night was thinking about where water could have got too where i couldn't see, particularly under the barrel and between the stock and action. Shropshire_Lad
If mine has had a soaking I always remove the stock and wipe it down with a clean cloth, let it warm through then oil and put back together. I realy made sure the barrel was floated fully on mine and have had no problems with zero shift when put back together. atvb Paul.
