clayman
Yes - Ed answers it perfectly ( above) , A correctly fitted gun throws 2/3rds over and 1/3rd under the bead - so the centre of aim is just above the bead - ie in clear view. Beads should be used for set up and gun fit etc. If that aspect is right, then the gun simply becomes an extension of your line of sight, where you look the shot goes. Chard
It is such a shame that clay pigeon shooting is only there for a few to enjoy.. way too expensive for most working people to afford :-( atvb Paul. If they'd keep off the fags and beer for 5 minutes, they might be able to afford it. Unfortunately, you don't get much lower on the income scale than I am these days, but I go every week. I just don't smoke like a trooper and drink like a ******* fish and I don't gamble either. If you get your priorities right, it's surprising what you can afford. Spara Dritto
In your peripheral vision, everyone does whether they notice it or not. It's more obvious when using the maintained lead style of shooting. When pulling through it's not so obvious. May I add, it's either the bead or the end of your barrel depending whether you've taken the bead off... It makes no difference, you still see the end of the gun in the peripheral vision. EdSolomons
I find shutting both eyes helps. I recommend it to anyone.

EdSolomons
Thia site is full of handy hints! what is the best stick to use? And is it important if it fits?
Chard
Thia site is full of handy hints! what is the best stick to use? And is it important if it fits? Just use your fingers Ed. You can get nice oak sticks, but the price of good wood these days........ You see all these blokes at the clay ground, skeet vests, badges, baseball caps, expensive sunglasses, oak sticks......I regularly get a better poke with my fingers than they get with their poncey kit
EdSolomons
I suppose its not the stick; its the guy poking it that gets results....... fingers or a dog poo covered rotting larch twig, either will blind just as well as a hand turned ebony eye prodder. Sandbank
I like something to reassure me I have flattened the rib but found the smallish but quite raised brass bead on my new Outlander distracting. I have now improvised with a head snipped off one of those pins you get with new shirts. Set this to stand about 1.5 mm proud of the rib. This has certainly improved the gun for me but would echo earlier posts that no bead is better that too much bead.
