OddJob
I'm a little confused! I am thinking of joining the CPSA so that I can compete and also have targets for my shooting development. To compete in many tournaments you need the CPSA ranking. Now, I understand how it is calculated, just not the practicalities of how it works. Namely, how do you start getting targets added to your average? Do you have to go to a certain shooting ground at certain times and shoot there under supervision? Or is it all based on entering scoring competitions? E.g. I get my new membership, how do I then shoot enough targets and where to make sure I get a classification, temporary or, depending on date, permanent? Ian E
In a nut shell you enter 3 registered events, you can then apply for a temporary classification. Once the next issue starts in May or Dec you will be given an "official" classification. You don't need to enter the comp just birds only if you wish, if you do enter the comp you will be classified on the day depending on your score, during these 3 first shoots. http://www.cpsa.co.uk/classifications Edited March 22, 2012 by Ian E
OddJob
Are the registered events competiton based rather than just turning up to a CPSA affiliated ground and getting 3x100 under your belt? Many fixtures are on week days and almost every day hence the confusion.
Catamong
You have to enter a Registered competion, look on the CPSA website for a list of events under "Fixtures". There aren't many weekday Registered shoots on weekdays. Cat.
timps
To get a classification it has to be a competition day. If you look on the CPSA under fixtures it will also list ‘PRACTICE’ these do not count towards your classification but are listed on the fixtures page. As Cat says most are held on a weekend unless it’s a major multi day comp. So you need to look for ‘REG’ after the discipline you are looking to compete in e.g. '100 ESP REG' for sporting.
