Novice
I'm now the very proud owner of a 687 silver pigeon with 29 1/2" barrels that have a matte finish, rather than the traditional blued finish. I've never seen anything of this type before and was wondering whether they were a special order or limited run? From the serial number I understand the gun was manufactured in 2001, although you wouldn't know it as it is an absolute minter! Sco77w
1990 Onyx has matte black barrels and Action. Mine too with the lettering in gold. It was the flat finish that attracted me to it. I wasn't aware it was anything special tho. I just assumed it was like that to reduce glare. Gnome of the Woods
I still cannot believe Phil publicly owns up to possessing a Beretta!
wj939
My 687 is labelled an S ? That anything to do with special as in the matte finish? Guessing due to the stock oval and engraving it would be a grade 3silver by today standards? Any one any ideas what it'd be worth?
PhilR
I still cannot believe Phil publicly owns up to possessing a Beretta! I've also got a 1977 ish Miroku 800S. At least with one from each of the main marques it allows me to gauge how much better my Perazzi is

AlistairB
My 1986 687 has them too. Nah Phil, you're getting confused with the rust! 687 Silver Pig 3 has matte barrels. AB

I was told they are matte all over as they were designed as field guns and it was to reduce reflections off the barrel. However, as usual, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Novice
So it looks like there are a few around then! On a slightly different topic, it came with 5 chokes (mobil?), true cylinder, skeet, 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4. Is this standard as on my old lanber the 5 supplied chokes included improved cylinder and full? bedwards1966
1/4 is improved cylinder. Skeet is between true cylinder and quarter, you just don't have a full choke (not that you're likely to ever need it for many things).
Novice
Thanks for the response. To be honest, I'm not moaning about the lack of a full choke and will probably get more use out of a more open one! Novice
