ferguson_tom
My mazda clutch has finally got bad so going to scrap it before it totally lets me down. I have decided to go for either a vauxhall frontera or nissan terrano. I am leaning towards the frontera because you seem to get more for your money and better mpg. Either car will be a 5 door diesel. I asked on a previous thread about terranos but would like to know more about the fronteras. What is the best diesel engine to go for, the 2.2 dti seems to be most common but aome have fuel pump problems???. Also there is an older one a 2.5td close to me for not a lot of money is this engine any good? What should i look for when buying. And do these engines run well on bio as this weekend we are making our first batch
Beardo
5 door i'd probably get a Terrano - Charger on here has one and it's great. But 3 door i'd get a Frontera as the roof if bloody brilliant for lamping.
Gordon R
I owned a 2.2 diesel Frontera. Very cheap car to run. Better than a Disco on road and no slouch off road. Post 1998 are the better ones - when they went from 2.5 to 2.2. I got around 37-38mpg. Only problem I had was the injector seals. 3 hours labour, although someone familiar with them can do it in 2. Cost me £120 about 5 years ago. That was at the 110k mark. Up to then - no problems at all. Terrano has bullet proof engine, but a bit heavy on fuel. Gordon R
Obviously never used a Frontera off road. They are very, very good.

ferguson_tom
Just thought would update you all on my purchase, well i love the terrano it does everything i need it for. The commmute to work is comfortable, it tows trailers very well with plenty of torque, dogs get in the boot in their big box, only been off road a little bit but handles everything in its stride. Bit bouncy and sometimes skitish over the bumps but my dads isuzu trooper is the same i think it just comes with having big 4x4s. I commute 70mile round trip a day and getting 33mpg from it which i do not think is too bad at all. Jist need to do front anti roll bar bushes and get the tracking done and it will be perfect. My missus is not too impressed but who care
